SCOUT® Milestone: 700,000 Procedures
Merit Oncology is proud to celebrate the milestone of over 700,000 procedures completed with SCOUT® Radar localization.1
Over 500 SCOUT procedures are performed every day, over 10,000 are performed every month, with over 1,000 facilities choosing SCOUT as their preferred method of wire-free localization.
Our physician and clinical partners’ dedication aligns with our mission to Ease the Burden that Cancer Places on Patients and their Loved Ones. Together, we strive to make a meaningful difference.
Why Time of Biopsy?
More and more of our customers are placing SCOUT reflectors at the time of biopsy. Doing so for highly suspicious lesions eliminates the need for a separate localization procedure before surgery, which can minimize patient anxiety and discomfort, improve overall satisfaction and convenience, and reduce out-of-pocket expenses by consolidating procedures.2
SCOUTShare™ is a cost-sharing program developed by Merit to encourage the placement of SCOUT reflectors at the time of biopsy for patients with highly suspicious lesions (BI-RADS 5). It’s designed to reduce redundant procedures and improve patient care while sharing the financial risk with healthcare providers.

RADAR localization has been referenced in over 100 Clinical Publications involving > 8,400 patients, solidifying SCOUT’s position of the most clinically referenced wire-free localization device on the market.1 Read the latest data surrounding SCOUT applications and how to improve operational efficiencies.
From Annals of Surgical Oncology:
“The Use of Radar‑Guided Localization to Identify Metastatic Melanoma After Neoadjuvant Immunotherapy”
The study investigates the use of radar-guided localization as an effective tool to ensure successful intraoperative localization and guided resection of target lesions for melanoma metastasectomy after neoadjuvant therapy. In this paper, reflectors were placed at time of biopsy, prior to or shortly after beginning NAC. Target lesion localization with fiducial markers and intraoperative identification and targeted resection allows the treating team to possibly deescalate surgery, examine pathologic response, and dictate further therapy on an individualized basis.
From Rush University Medical Center:
“Implementation of a Wireless Localization Program for Patients with Birad 5C and 5 Lesions Undergoing Image Guided Biopsies”
Presented as a poster at ASBrS 2025, Rush University Medical Center analyzed the outcomes of women undergoing SCOUT® Localization at the time of image guided biopsies. Benefits included improved operational efficiency in the breast center, increased availability of procedure slots and decreased wait time for biopsies. Additionally, they found that placing the localizer at the time of biopsy reduces the number of procedures for the patient with less disruption during a stressful time.

The Evolution of RADAR: SCOUT MD™
In Charleston, faculty members Dr. Vincent Reid, Dr. Lauren Kopicky, Dr. Ralph Corsetti, and Dr. Brett Parkinson spoke of their experience with our next generation platform, SCOUT MD™ as well as their experience with RADAR localization for advanced applications. The audience was engaged, and the feedback was extraordinarily positive on the variety of topics featured, panel discussions and open forum for questions and meaningful interaction.
We were completely sold out at this event and look forward to seeing you at the next one. We will be doing another THINKEducation Course later this year so stay tuned for more details.

26th ASBrS Annual Meeting
The American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) 26th Annual Meeting in Las Vegas was a success with 1800 breast surgeons in attendance. Merit was a sponsor for the Advanced Axillary Workshop and was supported by Melissa Messner, RN, our Director of Clinical Education.
22nd SIS World Congress
We flew over to Puerto Rico to join a symposium that was held at the 22nd SIS World Congress on breast cancer and breast healthcare. Vincent Reid, MD, Medical Director of the Hall Perrine Cancer Center/Mercy Medical in Cedar Rapids reviewed his experience with over 800 SCOUT cases!
