The Secret to Landing High-Paid Jobs Without Applying Like Crazy

The Secret to Landing High-Paid Jobs Without Applying Like Crazy

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

You’ve been told the key to landing a job is flooding the internet with applications. “The more you apply, the better your chances!”

Translation?

“Spend your evenings rewriting CVs, get ghosted by employers, and pray for a half-decent offer.”

And sure, if you’re okay with rejection after rejection, this can work. But is it the best strategy? Definitely not.

Because sending out 100+ applications isn’t a career plan. It’s a numbers game, and you’re the one losing.

The top-performing professionals ? They know something most job seekers don’t.

They don’t fight for visibility. They create it.

They’re not waiting on luck. They’re making the right people notice them.

What they do instead

It starts here:

1. They know their lane

High achievers don’t blindly send out CVs. They figure out:

  • Which companies resonate with their career vision and ambitions.
  • The real decision-makers in those organisations.

(Here’s the kicker: It’s not HR or hiring managers. It’s the leaders driving strategic decisions before a role is advertised.)

This clarity means no wasted time.

2. They build demand

Instead of trading endless applications for rejections, they:

  • Get on the radar before a role even exists.
  • Strategically engage with decision-makers, building credibility and trust.
  • Establish themselves as the candidate employers want, not just one of 500 in the ATS.

No “cold” LinkedIn messages. No spammy follow-ups. Just smart, consistent positioning.

3. They flip the script

Here’s the truth no one tells you:

  • Decision-makers aren’t sitting around, waiting for perfect applications. They're HEADHUNTING.
  • They take talented professionals from competitors, following the buzz others create.

That’s why it’s not about who knows you exist. It’s about who values you enough to chase you.

Are you chasing, or being chased?

Here’s something to think about...

Job boards and auto-filled cover letters might get you a job. But are they going to get you the right job? The one that aligns with your goals and ambition?

Because there’s a better way to land roles that pay more, challenge you, and put you on the right trajectory.

The question is, are you prepared to go for it?

P.S. I talked about this yesterday, but I’m going deeper inside my next private newsletter.

I’ll be breaking down:

I do feel badly for those who have literally submitted thousands of apps. While my app-count is not nearly that high, I know that when I started applying initially, I was far less strategic than I am today. The grand "chess game" of job searching that is 2025 and beyond. In this analogy I'd ask: "How well do you know the person playing chess sitting on the other side of the table?" That matters nowadays.
