Security You Can Count On (The Work on Albert)
When most people think about security, they picture locked gates, uniformed guards, and cameras recording in the background. But for Albert Masangano, security is far more than a checklist or a visible barrier; it’s about creating an environment where everyone, from staff to guests, feels protected, respected, and free to focus on what they do best. That’s where Albert comes in.
Albert’s mornings often start before the sun is fully up. While most people are just pouring their first cup of coffee, he’s already on the move, making his sweeps of the premises. These early rounds are what help him understand what’s happening in real time. He walks the grounds, checks entry points, and observes the rhythm of the place, staying alert to anything that might be out of place.
“Security is about being proactive, not reactive,” Albert explains. “You prevent problems before they have a chance to happen.”
His work stretches far beyond the physical inspections. Albert oversees CCTV surveillance, coordinates emergency response plans, and constantly reviews security protocols to ensure they remain effective. Every detail matters, from who enters the building to how quickly a team can respond to an unexpected situation. He works closely with various departments because, as he sees it, security isn’t one person’s job; it’s a shared responsibility.
One of the things Albert enjoys most is the variety of people he meets in his role.
“You interact with all kinds of characters. Guests from all walks of life, colleagues from different departments, and even regulatory officers,” he says. “The important thing is to approach each person professionally, with respect, and tailor your interaction to fit the situation.”
Whether it’s a brief conversation with a visitor or a thorough debrief with his team, he manages to blend authority with warmth. A balance that makes people trust him.
Albert’s journey into this role is one of dedication and adaptability. Last year, he earned a vertical move from Protea Hotel By Marriott Kampala to his current position at Protea Hotel by Marriott® Kampala Skyz, taking on broader responsibilities and the opportunity to influence security culture more directly. While some might view such a shift as just a job, for Albert, it was a chance to grow in ways that matter. Learning new systems, managing a larger team, and shaping policies that protect both people and property.
“It pushed me to work harder and see my role not just as a job, but as a mission,” he reflects.
Outside of work, Albert’s commitment to people’s well-being takes on a different form. He owns a gym and works as a personal trainer, guiding clients toward their fitness goals. For him, both security work and fitness training share the same principles, discipline, vigilance, and a drive to make others stronger. Whether he’s ensuring the safety of hundreds or motivating someone to finish their last set of push-ups, Albert’s focus is the same: helping people feel more confident and secure in themselves.
In the end, Albert’s work is about much more than patrolling hallways or monitoring screens. It’s about protecting people’s peace of mind, fostering a safe and welcoming environment, and leading a team that understands the real value of security. And in everything he does, whether it’s tightening a protocol, offering a reassuring word, or helping someone build their strength, Albert is living proof that true security is about trust, care, and the determination to always be ready.
