Sermatec Invited to High-Level Dialogue with Spanish Prime Minister to Deepen China-Spain Green Energy Cooperation
On April 11, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez hosted a high-level roundtable with leading Chinese entrepreneurs in Beijing, aiming to strengthen economic collaboration between Spain and China. Organized by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and chaired by Director General Elisa Carbonell, the meeting brought together representatives from three major sectors: automotive, battery and component manufacturing, and renewable energy.
Mr. Wang Jianpeng, General Manager of Sermatec, was invited to attend as a key representative of China’s energy storage industry and delivered a keynote speech on Sermatec’s core capabilities, industrial plans in Spain, and prospects for future cooperation.
“In the face of a complex geopolitical landscape, green energy cooperation between China and Spain is not only economically complementary but also a shared global responsibility,” Wang remarked. “Spain’s strategic position in Europe’s green transition, combined with China’s technological strength, opens broad opportunities for building a sustainable energy ecosystem.”
In November 2024, Sermatec announced the establishment of its first overseas joint venture in Málaga, Spain. The project will include a smart energy storage manufacturing base and an energy trading platform. With a planned annual capacity of 5GWh, the facility will cover the production of battery modules, packs, outdoor cabinets, and containerized ESS integration. It is scheduled to be operational by 2026. Sermatec also plans to collaborate with local universities and R&D institutions on intelligent energy management and electricity market solutions.
Wang emphasized that localization goes beyond manufacturing — it includes aligning technical standards, talent development, and deep integration with local ecosystems. As a global digital energy operator with projects in over 30 countries and regions, Sermatec will use the Spanish base as a strategic hub to expand across Europe and promote convergence between Chinese and EU energy standards, contributing to the EU’s carbon neutrality goals.
As the spring breeze sweeps across the Iberian Peninsula, Sermatec’s energy storage systems are quietly becoming part of Spain’s urban and rural landscapes. This marks not only the flow of technology and capital but also symbolizes China’s growing role in global green cooperation. In an era marked by profound transformation and mounting challenges, Sermatec proudly serves as a “lighthouse from the East” lighting the path toward a sustainable future.
