Simplify Intricate Knowledge With Creative Technology
Have you ever felt as if something pounded you in the head while learning something difficult?
Speaking as someone who learns best through images but lives in a world where nearly everything is taught in the text, I often find myself overwhelmed when learning subjects like math, computing, and almost everything that does not have an image to explain. If you feel the same way I do, creative technology could be our antidote.
What is creative technology?
It is the discipline of integrating technology, business, art, and design to craft a captivating proposition that bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds[1]. Examples of this technology include but are not limited to an interactive language-learning application like Duolingo[2] and immersive virtual worlds where people can live as if they were in a dream, such as Metaverse[3]. In addition to its bold concept, creative technology is a powerful tool that can turn complex knowledge—which usually appears in text—into visuals, which are easier to grasp and more engaging. Imagine being able to learn Geometry, System Architecture, or Human Biology in an interactive environment where you can interact with the subjects in real time; this could be a game changer. From using the A = x2 formula on paper, creative technology enables you to virtually pull the square into the air, see it in a three-dimensional model, spin it as you see fit, and gain a better understanding of the concept through visuals.
Although this technology has yet to be widely commercialized or recognized due to a lack of a solid user interface and suitable hardware devices[4], Lumination, an Australian EdTech powerhouse specializing in immersive learning technology, is a pioneer in this field that is worth keeping an eye on. Lumination Learning provides software and hardware solutions that utilize virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to modify the educational experience and enhance learning outcomes. With the solutions, 96% of students prefer to study with Lumination's technology, while their attention and engagement rose by 60% and 50%, respectively, compared to regular classroom participation[5].
As creative technology evolves, it presents an appealing answer to the difficulties of learning challenging subjects. This revolutionary technique converts abstract concepts into visually appealing and interactive experiences by seamlessly integrating technology, art, and design. The success of Lumination demonstrates the unquestionable power of creative technology to improve learning outcomes. While there are still hurdles to solve in terms of user interfaces and gadgets, this innovative field has the potential to substantially alter the future of learning.
