Smart Cities

Smart Cities

Last year, São José dos Campos, located in the interior of São Paulo, won the first national certificate of “Cidade Inteligente”. The certification was granted by ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) based on three international standards NBR ISO (37120, 37122 and 37123) regulated by the World Council on City Data, an institution linked to the UN (United Nations). Only about 80 cities in the world have this certification

But what should a smart city have? Efficient management that provides quality of life for its residents. Although the answer is simple, achieving this result requires investment, management and a keen eye to the needs of residents. In other words, achieving this is a great challenge.

And, again, I'm going to talk here about sustainability. After all, a smart city must be sustainable in several sectors. Electric public transport vehicles, waste recollection, new buildings with regulations in line with good environmental practices, combining technology with systems with less environmental impact (Green Building), among others, are just a few points that must be persued.

And why do I talk so much about technology? One of the reasons is because I breathe in a 100% agile environment, which looks for solutions every minute. Working at a company focused on technology made me keep a more optimistic view of the world and the future. I testify the advances and applications that innovative systems can impact on society. Technology can and should be present in advanced societies, especially in their infrastructure and in the health area.

At the end of last year, the Connected Smart Cities 2022 Ranking was released, which analyzes municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants. Curitiba, in Paraná, stood out in the following topics studied: mobility, environment, entrepreneurship, education, energy, governance, urbanism, technology and innovation, health, safety and economy. São Paulo, where I live, won the third position.

Smart cities are a reality, as they combine innovative solutions to solve the challenges of their residents and further advance their quality of life.
