Social Media: Keeping It Simple and Consistent
In this article I want to break down social media. What to post, where to post, and how to actually make it work for you. And I’m going to keep this simple, because I’ve learned when you go too deep or too technical, people get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing at all.
The truth is, you don’t have to master every platform or know all the secrets. What matters is that you start posting and build consistency. Whether that’s one video a week, two to three videos, or even seven to ten, the key is to just show up regularly and create content that tells your story.
Follow along to the audio podcast here:
I started my personal brand online more than a decade ago. Back in 2013 I entered a contest to get the most likes on a video. At the time, I didn’t realize it, but that experience taught me something powerful. I learned how to get attention, how to get people to engage, and how to build momentum online. That contest led me to raise money for a cause, which later opened the door to crowdfunding, which eventually shaped the way I use social media today for building businesses.
Fast forward to now. My team and I post across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, Threads, and sometimes even Snapchat. Sometimes it’s me posting raw and in the moment. Other times, my team takes content from podcasts, events, or client shoots and pushes it out across platforms. The content itself might change, but the formula stays the same: Ask yourself, who do you want to be known to, and what do you want to be known for?
That question determines what kind of content you should be creating. For me, I want to be known to CEOs and founders who are running businesses that are ready to scale. So I post content that speaks directly to them. For example; lessons I’ve learned as a CEO, how we’ve helped businesses scale, and where I see opportunities for growth.
But it’s not just about business. People buy from people, not just companies. That’s why I also share my personal side like where I’m from in Iowa, how I train, the trips I take, the moments I spend with family. It’s that personal connection that helps people relate to me as a real person. Then when they see the business content like the case studies, the wins and the lessons, they trust it more because they know me.

Think of your social media like your own reality show. You’re giving people a behind-the-scenes look at who you are, what you do, and what you stand for. Your stories, posts and videos are all chapters in the bigger book of your brand. When people follow along, they get to know you. They like you, trust you and eventually buy from you or they partner with you.
The biggest mistake is waiting until everything is perfect. I see people planning for months to make the perfect post or waiting until they have the perfect video setup. Stop waiting. Pull out your phone, record a video, and hit post. Then do it again tomorrow. The magic is in the repetition. Consistency builds momentum. Momentum builds trust. And trust leads to business.
When you build an audience, don’t obsess over the number of followers. You don’t need millions of people watching. You need the right people watching. You could have 1,000 true followers in your niche and build a multimillion-dollar business. The riches are in the niches, and it’s about quality over quantity.
I’ll leave you with this, pick one platform you enjoy and start there! Record a video today, post it, and see what happens. As you build your rhythm, you can add more platforms, more content types, and more strategy. Just don’t overcomplicate it. That’s how you win on social media.
