Speed up your Dapp Development with Azure Blockchain Workbench

Microsoft is investing heavily in Blockchain. A quick search of GitHub will show that Microsoft has contributed hundreds of Blockchain projects and Azure has many templates you can use to accelerate your projects. Of note is the recent release of Azure Blockchain Workbench. Workbench looks to address two key challenges:

  • Speed of delivery for Blockchain projects
  • Scalability, authentication, and integration with third-party groups, services, and APIs

There are three elements to Blockchain Workbench:

  • Setting up the testing servers
  • Managing your Dapps
  • Integration

The first step is building out the test environment. Blockchain is a distributed technology. You can’t simply run the code on your computer and validate a test. The Dapp program you write must run on a special network. Currently, Blockchain Workbench is optimized for Ethereum but there are plans to support other Distributed Ledger Technologies such as Hyperledger Fabric.

When you have the initial Blockchain test environment setup you can manage your Dapps from a Web page. The Web page gives you the tools to upload JSON and SOL files to build your app.

The final step, Integration, makes it easier to integrate third-party services into your Dapp such as Office 365, Azure Authentication and other services.
