Staff Highlight: Emily Chiu
Tell me a little bit about yourself (career path, & aspirations).
As a first-generation college student, I’ve spent my career in education, learning how to help others and by doing so, learning to help myself. Student drive reminds us of where we come from and the potential for growth.
How did you get into the tech industry or CTP?
CTP really jump-started my introduction to the tech industry. Prior to joining the team, I worked in more general education spaces and didn't understand the in's and out's of how software was created. Since joining, I've come to understand the technology I use on a daily basis as well as the incredible possibilities about which our students are so excited.
What do you like best about your work at CTP?
I like the autonomy to notice places for growth and the opportunity to execute for the good of the program.
What advice or tech tip would you give to fellows who want to get into the tech industry?
My biggest tip would be to know what motivates you towards your goals; that inner push is what consistently propels fellows to grow and push through uncomfortable challenges, of which there are many in a career.
What does your day-to-day look like outside of CTP?
I just finished my Master’s degree this semester, so I’m rediscovering what free time looks like!
CTP is now in its 10th cohort, and will be 10 years old this year. What are you looking forward to for CTP in the next 10 years?
I hope that future CTP cohorts continue to enjoy a unique community, where giving back to newer cohorts remains true, so CTP and each of its members can keep thriving.
