Stanford LEAD, 3 Years Later: Why the Learning Never Really Ends

It’s amazing how much can happen in just three years. In March 2022, I wrapped up the one-year Stanford LEAD executive education program and welcomed my son into the world. Life changed in countless ways: I became a father, shifted my career path twice, and discovered a passion for continuous learning that refuses to quit.

Right after finishing LEAD, I wrote “10 Reasons Why You Should Enroll in the Stanford LEAD Online Business Program” which reached a lot of people. Many told me it inspired them to apply. Back then, I thought completing LEAD was the end of a journey. Little did I know it was more like a gateway. Today, I keep taking additional courses to keep that momentum going. It has been well worth it.

Now, three years later, I can reflect on the program’s long-term benefits. Here are the top ten reasons why I think Stanford LEAD remains a game-changer, even well after completing the core program. If you’re exploring executive education, these points might just show you why this experience could be the perfect fit for your growth.

1. Supports career trajectory shifts

When I started Stanford LEAD, I was focused on IT product development. Partway through, I moved into international business development at a successful Polish company. Two years later, I took on a role at a European challenger in the payments industry. This isn’t just my story. Leadership development programs often boost participants’ confidence for new career opportunities, including cross-functional or multinational roles. It’s not just about changing jobs, it’s about sharpening your vision so you can see where you add the most value.

2. Builds a powerful professional network

Executive education programs are frequently praised for their networking potential. Surveys of business professionals show that many credit their networks from these programs for job offers, collaborations, and partnerships. In my experience, the LEAD network has opened doors I never knew existed. It’s also great for sharing real-time market insights, tech trends, and investor intel. My employer benefit from these connections too.

3. And gives you friends for life

Networking sometimes feels like a series of transactions, but real connections form when you tackle shared learning experiences and group projects. Many alumni develop lifelong friendships, not just work contacts. I’ve visited classmates in their home countries, hosted them in mine, and even watched our families bond. It is more important than ever in the highly digital world we live in to find a sense of camaraderie that goes beyond LinkedIn.

4. Increases earning potential

Let’s be honest: many people enroll in executive education to boost earning power. Research shows that graduates from top programs often see higher salaries and bonuses, usually tied to promotions or new roles. My pay has climbed steadily since I completed LEAD. The money is a result of new skills, a broader mindset, and a fantastic network that helps me deliver greater value. When you consistently deliver results, the market tends to reward you.

5. Enhances strategic thinking

Before Stanford LEAD, I had a bit of “tunnel vision” on day-to-day tasks. Afterward, I started spotting market trends, anticipating customer needs, and planning multiple moves ahead. Studies on high-performing executives often name strategic thinking as one of the top skills that set them apart. The curriculum, case studies, and discussions in LEAD really helped me see my industry and my work on a much larger scale.

6. Sharpens problem-solving skills

Many top programs include hands-on case studies and simulations because theory alone just isn’t enough. Management education research shows that practical problem-solving activities build lasting frameworks you can apply in real-world situations. I still rely on these daily, whether I’m evaluating a new concept or figuring out how to enter a new market.

7. Encourages you to help others succeed

One of the most rewarding experiences is the sense of fulfillment you get from helping others. I’ve personally encouraged a few driven individuals to apply for LEAD, and each one successfully completed the program. Guiding others also strengthens your own expertise, “To teach is to learn twice.” There’s real joy in watching people overcome their doubts and achieve remarkable things. And it’s not just about those who are ready now; it’s also about sparking a sense of wonder in young minds, motivating them to aim high and consider Stanford as well in their future.

8. Offers direct access to world-class professors

There’s something special about learning from faculty who influence global business thought. Studies show that interacting with top academics and practitioners exposes you to emerging trends and diverse viewpoints. Even after you graduate, these professors often stay accessible for questions and feedback. I owe a lot to two particular professors, one who taught me how to communicate more effectively and another who helped me understand strategy.

9. Keeps you engaged with the Stanford community

Education doesn’t end when you get a diploma or certificate. Continuous community engagement is key to staying ahead of industry changes and keeping a growth mindset. After LEAD, I became Vice President of the Stanford Club of Poland. In 2024, our team organized the first Stanford-wide event in Poland. In other countries LEADers sparked a wave of new Stanford clubs. Every year we meet at Stanford campus for annual Me2We gathering of likeminded people. It’s a global network that keeps feeding you new ideas and inspiration.

10. Becomes “Stanford for life”

The biggest takeaway is that your relationship with Stanford doesn’t end at graduation. It’s an ongoing journey where you can keep taking courses, mentor new participants, and shape future cohorts. This model of lifelong learning is crucial in a fast-changing world. And it isn’t just about work. It’s also about staying connected to a community and a philosophy that pushes you to be your best.

Final thoughts

If you’re considering an online executive program, let me be proof that finishing LEAD was not the finale. It was a launchpad for so much more. The career boosts, the network, and the continuous upskilling all confirm that Stanford LEAD truly delivers.

Ready to make the leap? There’s a wide-open door to growth and opportunity, plus a lifelong community you’ll love. After all, the greatest journeys often begin just when you think you’ve reached the end. Go ahead and take that step. Let your learning go far beyond the finish line.

Does Stanford LEAD work the same way for everyone? Of course not, because everyone’s journey is different. However, if you really commit to the program and stay open to the people you meet, you’ll likely gain many of the rewards I’ve mentioned. Just remember to use a bit of caution when inviting new classmates into your home. You might make friends for life, after all.

Push your boundaries, trust the process, and realize you can achieve more than you ever thought possible. If you have questions or just need a friendly nudge, I’m here to help. Executive education might feel overwhelming, but the payoff is huge, both professionally and personally. Sometimes, the greatest adventure begins exactly where you think it ends.

Don’t let doubt stop you.

Great insights, thank you. Today growth mindset is a key for opening new doors, building self confidence and staying up and ahead of market, new technology trends, etc. I also had my game-changer (unfortunately not LEAD yet :) but I fully agree to what you have writen. Sharpening critical thinking and strategic vision, and above it all - networking with inspiring people with the same mindset are invaluable benefits. Do you remember our working together in accelerator? Looking back, now we would do it differently and more mature with our current knowledge, wouldn’t we? By the way, it was a fantastic experience to work with you then and observe your potential and more - observe you today via LI how broadly you are active and share your experiences. Hope to find coffee time with you (in reality) one day. ☕️
