Start being Entrepreneur, stop being employee
Let me start by asking you a question, Are you an EMPLOYEE or an ENTREPRENEUR? Most of the people will say Employee. Why? Because they don’t own a business. However, for being an Entrepreneur you don’t need to own a business. You can be an entrepreneur in your current job as well. It all depends on your behavior and mindset. You can follow below rules and start graduating from employee to entrepreneur.
Focus on your skills: Start focusing on your skills and improve them. Don’t look at the weaknesses, they will fade away with time if you focus on your skills. Focusing on your weakness and try to improving on them can be futile for your career. So work on your strengths.
Say NO: Saying NO is the most difficult part of being an employee. The fear of what happens when you say NO, keeps you on the YES path. Assess what’s not important or necessary and say no to it.
Start delegating: No-one is Superman and should also not behave like one. Start delegating your work to your colleagues or sub-ordinates. Many people don’t trust others for the work and end-up doing everything by them. This could be very dangerous and will land you up as an employee.
Stop multi-tasking: Is this you? Do you love to multi-task to impress others? Well, you shouldn’t for the sake of your career. Focus on the task at hand and complete that before getting into any other task. The real meaning of multi-tasking is doing nothing well. So give mind rest and mono-task. There are studies that show it’s impossible for our brains to focus effectively on more than one thing at a time.
Don’t seek help: Seeking help from supervisors is so employee-ish. If you want to elevate your career from employee to entrepreneur, start talking about solution instead of problems.
Justify for results: Your salary should be justified based on the results you produce instead of your role/position in the organization.
Take responsibility: Employees tend to shy away from the responsibilities. Start taking responsibilities for your actions whether the impact was positive or negative. Don’t wait for things to happen, or for someone to tell you what to do, you must make them happen.
Think about plan: Don’t get tied up with the BAU. Don’t be responsible for what needs to be done now. Look at the long term plan and project your mind forward. Look at the potential opportunities or pitfalls and work according to that.
Love failure: The biggest mistake employees do is to avoid failure. This is a good habit in a way but you don’t have to hide from your failures. Failures should be looked as learnings and they can lead to success in a due course.
All of the above traits will be beneficial for you as well as for your organization. I’ll end with the same question, employee or entrepreneur? Is it the time to switch? The choice is yours, because it’s your career.
