Suicide : A Rising Concern!

Suicide : A Rising Concern!

Suicides, It Seems All of us hear this term very often. Isn't it? Why is it happening frequently then? Especially, Among the teenagers, The term Suicide is prevalent excessively. The solutions for cessation of Suicides need be tailored at a prominent level of urgency!

What is Suicide?

Suicide is the act of intentionally hurting oneself which leads to death. People commit Suicide to escape from the harsh reality they live in. It is an act of ending one's life to escape away from hurt, pain, depression, stress, unwanted pressure and the list go on. A Failed Suicide Attempt means a person attempting to kill oneself, causing hurt & pain with the intent to die, but they do not die however get severely ill/injured.

Data & Figures :-

According to the WHO, every year, almost one million people die from suicide and 20 times more people attempt suicide; a global mortality rate of 16 per 100,000, or one death every 40 seconds and one attempt every 3 seconds, on average.

Religious Perspective :-

The Bhagavad Gita condemns suicide for selfish reasons and posits that such a death cannot have “shraddha’, the all-important last rites. Brahmanical view had held that those who attempt suicide should fast for a stipulated period. Upanishads, the Holy Scriptures, condemn suicide and state that ‘he who takes his own life will enter the sunless areas covered by impenetrable darkness after death’.

More on Suicides :-

Since Time Immemorial, Suicides have been a part of the society, Some of them criticize & Condemn while some of them romanticize the issue. Suicide or Death of someone is not only about oneself, it affects Family, Friends, Relatives & even the Whole Community.

A person feels that he has been dug inside the hole & needs someone to come by & let him/her out. The one who is Suicidal persistently seeks someone or something which will happen or come by to heal, if not then the hole deepens & intensifies. It can phrased as, "Out of the frying pan (and) into fire."

A person who's around us or online pretend to be happiest, but the reality in this social media world & the So called Happy Young generation is dumbfounding. We can never Relate to Hopelessness & the Emptiness that a person feels. The vulnerability, perhaps, is acknowledged when the person isn't anymore.

Youngsters have occupied a large share of suicides among overall demographics. While we as a Society are spreading a lot of awareness & information related to Mental Health, on the contrary there are the ones who bully, criticize, shower negativity on a large scale & are element of this toxic culture unknowingly.

Few Numbers that will leave you shocked :-

According to the National Crime Records Bureau data, 11,396 children (5,392 boys and 6,004 girls) died by suicide in 2020, an 18 per cent rise from 9,613 such deaths in 2019 and 21 per cent rise from 9,413 in 2018 in India.

An average 31 children died by suicide every day in India in 2020, according to government data. Family Problems'' (4,006), ''Love Affairs'' (1,337) and ''Illness'' (1,327) were the main causes of suicide among children (below 18 years of age).

We do provide emotional & psychological support to the ones we are well aware of, but we cannot assure anyone's emotional well-being if the pain is caused time & again. Let's Promote & Spread Awareness regarding the same for a greater cause to ensure a better tomorrow for someone.

What do we Conclude?

The successively rise in numbers of Suicides is a collective, System & a Social Failure. Providing a healthy, better & a much needed conducive environment for our family, friends & surroundings is our duty & we have failed in doing so
