A Summer Culling of a Different Kind
Each year as many of you know, I have a bit of a Summer culling.
For the past four years, Summer has been my reset button.
It;s normally a loving parting of ways with clients who no longer align with the vision or the journey values anymore, because life is too short to not work with people that bring you joy.
But this year it’s a little different.
There is no client culling needed.
I have the absolute privilege of working with women who are leaders in their fields, women who inspire, uplift and treat our relationship as the partnership it should be. They bring excellence to the table and treat me like an integral part of their team, I look at them all as mentors for very different parts of my life.
We strengthen each other.
So no culling of clients, but I still very much have a culling going on!
Culling of software that I'm paying for and not using to its full potential is out.
I'm also creating space to try new software to feed the geek, as the geek has been overlooked due to business development.
Over the past 3 weeks I've saved over £240 a month just by reassessing my software, and hopefully over the next 6 months, as annual renewals end, I’ll save even more.
It’s well worth you having a little review of your outgoings and seeing if there is a better alternative out there?
A culling of social media has also commenced.
I'm more focused on the purpose of being here, and time blocked in my diary to make sure I'm utilising my marketing time better rather than doom scrolling.
And although the Facebook and Instagram comeback is on the horizon, that isn;t going to be aimed at you my LinkyDinks, because you are an entirely different audience and I know you like my non-frequent ramblings.
Is it scary to reduce my social presence?
Not really as 95% of new leads for the past 2 years have come via referrals - thanks muchly to all of you who talk about me!
So presence yes, but purposefully lead - massively!
And now the big culling of the year!
I’m culling Hayley Speed™!
Hayley speed is no longer possible!
I've been a little poorly over the past few months and had to slow right down because I can not seem to kick whatever it is out and those kids of mine are requiring a lot more me than they have done in years!
It’s not easy to slow down for someone who has always gone a million miles per hour and got a million things to do - I didn't get the nickname Hurricane Hudson for no reason.
But life sometimes makes you slow down, and also by slowing down it means that you get to really look at where you need to be at that moment. (Last minute decision by Big H that she isn;t going on a Gap year and actually heading to Uni this September means a Mum eye over the admin with her)
I’m still massively proactive, but not just on the work front.
Life to - dos are getting done and extra joy filled moments are being made.
If you are feeling like something is not quite right it might be time to reassess what is going on.
For many of us we are heading into prime juggling time, which means our responsibilities might increase, shift, and we might actually want to take a breath and some time off.
You might be in need of your own Summer culling.

1moI’m early into my VA journey but with 30+ years work experience behind me, including a successful stint in the military, I know when something isn’t right and change needs to happen. Your post was timed perfectly for me. Was the headstrong, stubborn streak coming out too strong? No, I won’t be spoken to or treated poorly by someone who should know a lot better. I’m very glad to read you didn’t need a client cull this year and you’ve found strong, empowering women to work with. Thanks for this article, it got me at exactly the right time. I did the right thing with my own mini cull.

1moI am 100% pro software culling. We use way too many. I'm actually thinking of even stopping my payment for Fathom. I use Claude for all my call transcript work, and so why would I pay for it.... then again, I really do love their summaries. Other than that, I am at an all time low of software usage fees! And thank you for your kind words 🧡🧡
