Taking Control!

This year has been a huge year for me. As I look back through the notes that I have taken, I can't believe how far I have come! I continue to learn about myself and my own journey. I could write a book about this year alone! I'm very grateful to Carter's and the SMLA program for the opportunity to have a larger role outside my store.

Back in March I was introduced to a Molly Fletcher video Fearless at Work. I took in all the information but I wasn't sure what it meant until now. In the Video Molly asks What's the story that's holding you back from being the best version of yourself? What is the new story so you can make the shift that you want to make? At that point I didn't know what was holding me back?

I'm sure my story has multiple points of impact, but the major one takes me back to a high school math teacher. I struggled with math, so he pulled me aside one day and told me college isn't for everyone, and suggested that I didn't try to attend. That day he told me that I didn't really have a future because every career involves math. I believe that I did prove him wrong, and I continue to do so. Now it's not the Math that holds me back, math is my everyday life and I love retail math! Instead its the confidence to believe in myself and more so beating my own self doubt. I'm glad I came across this video from Mel Robbins. Earlier this week I had a conversation with my District Manager about this topic. As I sat and reflected I knew she was right but had no idea how to work through my self doubt. I'm excited to use the 5 second rule when I start thinking negativly. I love that the company and my leaders are so encouraging and help me break through my own barriers to become fearless at work. This long post is really about this video! I highly suggest watching it!

Matilda, you have everything to be an incredible leader based on this story. Also, your unwritten book could be added to the shelves of many authors Male and female on leadership or inspiration. So I say, just like you proved that math was just a temporary obstacle, write that book so your story can be shared to many others in the same boat. Gil
