Teenage Renaissance

Teenage Renaissance

When I turned 60, I didn’t feel like I was slowing down or winding down. Quite the opposite. I was speeding up and revving the engine on a brand new chapter which I call my Teenage Renaissance.

70s Afternoon Tea with pineapple hedgehogs & egg sandwiches

The sixtysomething boogie

I parachuted into my sixties with a 70s inspired afternoon tea. A decade that has a hold on my heart .

Songs. Simply iconic. From Slade to the Sweet. Ian Dury and the Blockeads. Bowie and Bolan The Emotions. Earth, Wind and Fire. Moments and Whatnauts. The eclectic soundtrack of my youth still gets me dancing.

Fashion. Utterly flamboyant. Where every outfit made a statement. From fearless flares to platforms, psychedelic prints, suede jackets, sequins and satin ruled both day and night.

TV shows. Love a re-run these days - whether that's Man About The House or Bless This House, Rising Damp, The Persuaders, Charlie’s Angels, or Top of the Pops - the 70s had a unique style with crazy characters who have become legends.

An era that shaped my teenage spirit - and it’s that same spirit I’ve reawakened in my 60s. Unapologetic. Unfiltered. Unstoppable.

What's your fave 70s song? Oviously mine is September by Earth , Wind and Fire.

Every decade has a unique flavour

Two years into my #diamonddecade, I've experienced rediscovery-&-reinvention and now have absolutely no interest in fitting into someone else’s expectations. I know who I am. And I rather like her (most of the time).

I also see my #midlife compatriots having a similar outlook-&-attitude. It's a trend.

And looking at trends was the focus of DAY 04 of the eleven day Consistent Content Sprint from Lisa Johnson #consistentwithlisajohnson.

#midlife is a movement not a moment

Embrace #midlife with open arms

Embracing #midlife has certainly become a prominent trend in 2025, reflecting a shift that views this life stage as a period of empowerment and a reboot.

Though let’s be honest - #midlife isn’t the most inspiring term.

It kind of implies you’re halfway through something rather than being framed as a mega moment of magic. Although I see a shift, I'm leaving the uber dedicated trailblazers and bodacious changemakers out there to give the term the complete make-over it deserves.

They are the ones leveraging this phase with guts-&-gusto and encouraging the #midlife mavens to explore new passions, embark on new careers, seek out new adventures to boldly go where they haven't gone before and challenge those age-related stereotypes.

Stepping into the #midlife garden

Making #midlife magical

A number of #remarkablewomen embraced this notion way back. They saw the writing on the wall. Hats off to all of them as they are creating footsteps worth following and making #midlife rather magical by speaking out and shaking things up.

Because the best thing about being this age. You don’t need anyone’s permission.

When I grow up I want to be Iris Apfel -- who lived to 102, owned her eccentric brilliance and made it onto the cover of the glossies. Those are footsteps worth following. Because style, spirit and sisterhood never go out of fashion. Whatever your age.

Whose footsteps would you like to follow when you grow up?

I'm definitely having a teenage renaissance. Currently making a pair of Lilo and stitch palazzo pants to wear to go see the film, and not giving any f***s about what people think!
