Ten Tough Questions—#4
Fine-Tuning of the Universe: How do atheists explain the apparent fine-tuning of the universe that allows for life to exist?
This may be the shortest blog post I have ever written because the atheist’s response to the fine tuning is brief. If the universe were not so tuned, we would not be here having this thread on LinkedIn. In other words, in the secular worldview, there is no absolute need for life to exist. Nothing more to say.
If spirit of turnabout is fair play, one might want to pose the question in the opposite direction. In the creationist narrative, we are God’s singular focus. In our current understanding of the universe, our solar system is one out of a billion, billion, billion others. What is the purpose of all those other solar systems? Are they unimportant? Are we really that important? Love to hear what anyone has to say about this.
That’s what I think. What do you think?

Is religion the belief that there has to be a reason to everything, and atheism the acceptance that there are no reasons at all to existence?
I can't stop looking at the picture you included with this post. Oh, My God. Regardless of your beliefs, doesn't it just take your breath away? Add in the knowledge of the complexity of each sparkle represented by this small slice of the universe, and I'm breathing a prayer. Oh. My. God. Can you imagine the mind that can conceive and create this? So, you ask me why God created the universe. Uh, what makes you think I'm qualified to answer such a question?
Well, given the scale of this, I think it is valid to acknowledge that we don’t know what we currently know, and barely know what we do not know.
