Thinking Differently: what have CCGs ever done for us?

This is the last day for Clinical Commissioning Groups in the NHS. I thought I would share 50 insights into what they have achieved based on my experiences in Dorset and an excellent publication created by the NHS Dorset CCG comms and engagement team

  1. Dorset - wave 1 ICS based on the Clinical Services Review
  2. Lead the integration of ambulance commissioning in the southwest
  3. Created a pan system information-sharing agreement
  4. 1000% Trusts good or outstanding
  5. Created 80 patient participation groups (from zero)
  6. Managed 1000,s of essential contracts
  7. Created one system finance collaboration agreement
  8. Met finance targets for 10 years (every year)
  9. The systemwide rollout of smartcards
  10. Responded to 9197 individual patient treatments
  11. Signed partnership MOU with Bournemouth University
  12. Supported the creation of the Dorset Cancer Partnership
  13. Created a system transformation programme service
  14. Implemented award-winning robotic process automation
  15. Efficiently managed customer care and FOI enquiries
  16. Delivered WiFi to every GP practice
  17. Secured extra funding for histopathology
  18. Developed an effective primary care strategy
  19. Introduced Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships
  20. Delivered effective medicines management support for primary care
  21. Created one acute network vanguard, Innovation Hub (one of four) and a Research Hub
  22. Secured investment and supported the Olympic legacy
  23. Launched Let's Talk for better comms and access during the winter
  24. New patient co-ordinators introduced
  25. Secured £200m inward investment for transformation from the Clinical Services Review
  26. Invested in GP premises including new state-of-the-art practice at Lifeboat Quay
  27. responded effectively to 3542 complaints
  28. Delivered over 1.8m vaccine doses for Covid 
  29. Introduced staff champions
  30. Engaged in 70 years of the NHS
  31. National pilot and wave one system for population health management
  32. Creation of effective e-referrals 
  33. Launched recruitment platform for all professions
  34. Achieved a 14% increase in Instagram followers
  35. Use CCG HQ as a vaccination centre delivering over 25,000 does
  36. Developed the nationally recognised and award-winning Dorset Insight and Intelligence Service DiiS
  37. Created Maternity Matters and Labour Line for better care
  38. £350m earmarked for Dorset for hospitals improvement based on the foundations set by CSR
  39. Created of Universities Hospitals Dorset and Research Active Dorset
  40. Creation and roll out of Dorset Care Record - one of the first to truly integrate social care, mental health and physical health data
  41. Collaborated with Dorset Race Equality to ensure better insights into service design and development
  42. 153 support and 33 quality meetings to support delivery partners improve care
  43. Creation of one staff passport for freer movement of staff across organisations
  44. Collaborated with the AHSN, ARC, Dorset LEP, Lighthouse Poole, Bournemouth Symphony and the arts and culture sector for innovation
  45. 24% increase in Facebook followers for Maternity Matters
  46. Awarded Green Star for outstanding two years in a row for patient and public engagement
  47. Introduced Spotlight a a staff nominated recognition award scheme
  48. Planned effectively for EU exit and the Covid pandemic with the CCG running gold silver and bronze command for the past two years.
  49. Created a 50-member youth representatives group
  50. 827,197 impact on the CCG website in the past 12 months and over 15,000 clinical hours of engagement in the Clinical Services Review
