Thoughts on International Travel. Why do I like it?
Travel is an indispensable facet of human life, kids to grandparents all travel, be it even in the lilliputian form of going from one’s home to work, or picking children from school, with many taking flights or living outside home for more than 3 quarters of a calendar. This write-up is intended to be a package of my experiences and learnings that gave away to a new me.
I have read uncountable travel blogs, on the gargantuan web from social media, to indigenous blog sites, travel & tourism sites, and also private travel handles. While it’s commonplace to peruse other travelers’ experiences and crave similar for oneself, I had decided to put my thirst to action. I held firm to keep-alive my travel conquests to not only devour such blogs but to experience them in-person, for myself. Honest-to-goodness, I am confident that a globetrotter equates to being in the lap of luxury.
By the time I became a non-partisan traveler, I had already left footprints on around 10 countries, which formed as an enlightening base for my future expeditions. Every time I traveled gave me the inspiration to work even harder, and not let my ecstasy quotient fade away. Since the last 3 years, I have exponentially moved up in my life’s travel graph, stamping over 13 countries. Want to know my motivation? Keep reading.
So, why travel?
To this hour, I have tasted the fulfilling waters of 26 sovereign lands on earth.
At the very onset, travel gave me exposure to the rather convoluted way the world operates, which was quite different from what I had ever fathomed at home. Initially, it seemed like an alienist world, but eventually, the foreign lifestyle sank in.
- The paramount learn for me was making myself so dynamic and perceptive of cultures, that I believe I can now live almost in any part of the world, and be content. I have become more respectful of the differences than ever before. There is almost an unsaid charm in the way people live across cultures. The different habitats, lifestyles, languages, and more importantly, the humility across every single one of them, is just an experience in itself. It keeps the travel tickle going in me.
- I now understand and value life to its highest standards. Seeing the rich and the poor side of the world, the kind and cruel side, the privileged and the malnourished side, and also the democratic and aristocratic side, gives me a deep perception of the value of life. At this instance, I can comment that I feel privileged to have received the opportunities to witness the world as it is, only learn more each time.
- Beholding the beauty of the world with naked eyeballs develops the appreciative persona in oneself. I feel immensely grateful for all the good things in life. Sailing across the biggest oceans to visiting accredited National Geographic sites, taking an elevator to the highest building in the world to jumping off cliffs, driving around haunted roads to getting high with strangers, making friends across the world to having endless fun, all played the role of an eye-opener, to see the world from a different perspective, from a better perspective, from an appreciative perspective.
Out of all, I have learned to be a better and humble human. I have traveled in different classes of airlines, lived in many different hotels, hostels, and homestays, and have only deduced one thing from it all, “Every experience is rewarding if you only ask your mind to think of it that way”. Travel never demands luxury or a heavy pocket, it only demands perseverance and time, patience, and tolerance. And in return, you acquaint the taste of all the ingredients of life.
How it helped me grow!
All my years, I’ve known that people get addicted to drugs, alcohol, or gambling, but I beg to differ. I am hooked to ‘Travel’.
Initially, I was fearful, I was choosy. I restricted myself to adventures with only my trusted mates. Perhaps, it was just how I was brought up. But, as time elapsed, I learned to open my boundaries, and planned to travel with other enthusiasts, strangers, or just an acquaintance. My buddies list now comprises people from India, Singapore, Pakistan, China, Ecuador, Portugal, Greece, and UAE to name a few.
Each time I venture out, not only do I get to experience the differences in culture, language, and lifestyle of the place, but also that of my tour-mate, making the trip all the more experiential.
All the expeditions helped me overcome the unnecessary narrow-mindedness that restricts growth and development for a better tomorrow. Now, I am confident to try new ventures, to travel solo to the ends of the earth, and fearlessly step out of my shield.
Where do I stand now!
I am now open to traveling to any country, any city, living anywhere, working anywhere, with anyone from anywhere in the world, and to impart the importance of travel to whomever I meet.
I hold a strong will to keep exploring the world and keep learning about the new cultures, languages, and lifestyles. I have till now traveled to only one-eighth of the world, and honest opinion, I do not intend to travel to all. I travel to learn, to understand, and to pass on my learning and experiences to others. I am also inclined to re-visit a country if I feel I left some experiences undone the first time.
So, my advice, travel all you can, while you can. Continue to explore the unexplored within you.
I will be writing more in detail about my different experiences. Stay tuned!
