Three life lessons from my second Half Marathon
It has been almost three weeks since I completed my second ever Half Marathon and upon reflecting on my experience there are three things, three lessons which are very much applicable to a life as they are applicable to a Half Marathon.... I though I’d share them briefly in this article.
Involve People:
Whether it’s a collaborating on a work project with your colleagues, delegating work to someone from your team or running a Half Marathon, people are key to “Making it happen”!
Making sure you involve people in the right context and framework is key to success both in business and life.
NO ONE CAN DO IT ON THEIR OWN.
Have a target:
“Without a goal you can’t score” I saw Casey Neistat say that once and it resonated with me to a large extent.
What’s the point of doing something it you don’t have or milestones to check progress, an end goal, a purpose, !?
Effort exerted towards vain will go in vain, this is relevant to business as it is to life.
My goal going into this Half Marathon was to beat my own timing in the first Half Marathon I ever did.
I managed to beat my record by a mere three minutes. Small progress yet, PROGRESS!
Challenge Yourself:
Often in life and at work you may feel overwhelmed. The task is too big to handle, the deadline is too tight to meet. Or, the distance is too big to run!
I remember 48 hours before the run I seriously considered going for the 10K. However, time and time again mentality comes on top, and attitude WINS!
Self-awareness is key. Test yourself from time to time and see where your limit is. Life is more enjoyable then.
