Three simple but powerful things that I got from my MBA at IIM Bangalore
1.Confidence to deal with globe masters
Growing up from a humble background, I used to find it difficult to deal with people who globe a lot, show off, and are not ready to accept the fact that they don't know enough about a particular subject. While pursuing MBA, I have learnt that most of the people are just insecure about their image, they keep thinking of what would happen if people come to know that they are not that good with one topic. Hence they pretend as if they know everything which in turn makes it difficult to come to solutions while having conversation. Degree at IIM B has taught me the skill & art to identify such people and confidently handle with them without hesitation.
2.Network that compliments
One single person cannot be good at everything that is required to run a business. However, a good leader is one who understands where he lacks and can create an ecosystem of people around from where he can pool the complimentary skill sets as and when required. IIM B has provided me with a strong network of extremely talented friends which have a huge diversity and a variety of strengths.
3.Handling ambiguity with knowledge that's practical
In real world scenarios most the situations that we have to handle are ambiguous with incomplete or limited information at hand. Syllabus of MBA trains us to deal with such problems. There were many subjects in MBA that have armed me with the information that is required for understanding businesses and valued in the industry.
Starting from subjects in strategy such as Competition and Strategy (C&S), Strategic Leadership (SL) and Theory of Operations and Strategy (TOS) which taught us how have companies succeeded or failed, what's the role of leaders in the company and how to handle constant changes & disruption in the sector.
Then, I learnt subjects related to people management and human psychology such as Managing people and Organisation (MPPO), Management paradigms from Bagvad Gita (MPBG) and Leadership Vision Mission Reality (LVMR) which taught me subtle aspects of managements.
Subjects in upcoming technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Product Management in start ups (DPMS), Managing Information Technology (MIST) equipped me details in forth coming digital world.
Lastly, I studied subjects in public policy which taught me the ground reality of development & growth in Indian society. The excellence required in execution of ideas and difference in implementation plan required at various levels considering the variations in Indian demographics.
With the above learnings, I think I would be able to make valuable contribution to the organisations that I join in near future and even to the society at large.
At the end, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to family, friends and teachers for supporting me in this journey. Only because of their support and blessings I could achieve this feat.
