Top 3 Reasons You Need a Skillset Based Profile
Bob Dylan had it right… “Times They Are A-Changin’”
Over the past decade or so, there has been a gradual shift in the way companies look at talent in the marketplace.
We’ve moved from an Eagles “The Long Run” approach to more of a Janet Jackson “What have you done for me lately?” approach.
Historically, it was all about pedigree, loyalty and company name recognition.
Hiring was focused on bringing in great raw talent that could be molded over time to serve the organization for 10-20-30 years.
Resume profiles met this demand with a chronological ordering detailing ones' career story.
Today, companies are focused on what needs to be accomplished over the next 1-3-5 years.
As a result of this shift, candidates need to be conscious of how their resume profile presents to the market.
Specifically, you need to be more SKILLSET focused showing detailed examples of how you helped get sh*t done.
When you lead with what you CAN do (skillset) and LOVE to do (fulfilling work):
It helps hiring parties visualize how they can deploy you in their organization for immediate impact
You train your network / recruiters to bring you what you seek
You end up with a pipeline of fulfilling work
If you are an independent consultant the skillset focus is 1,000x more important since the market moves even faster to days, weeks, months…
If you want to stand out and shine in the future of work, we (the market) need to know what you can do for us.
Or as Jay-Z says, “Show Me What You Got”
