2025: The First ESG Data to Report

The new year marks the first financial year data to report for the second wave of eligible companies. All large companies are obliged to report in 2026 (FY 2025) under the CSRD and EU Taxonomy if they meet at least 2 of the following requirements:

  • the balance sheet is above €25 million;
  • the net turnover is above €50 million;
  • or they have more than 250 employees.

This means that the data needs to be recorded and collected starting from January 1st, 2025.

It is however worth mentioning that the reporting requirements of large companies are phased in from 2025 to 2029, depending on specific criteria. This strategy aims to offer organisations with more limited resources the necessary time to comply, thereby enhancing the ESG transparency of the overall market.

INSIGHTS | Getting Started with EU Taxonomy Reporting

Regarding EU Taxonomy, the reporting exercise starts by assessing the EU Taxonomy eligibility of the organisation’s activities. This means identifying relevant activities within the EU Taxonomy framework, to determine the turnover, Capex & Opex associated with these activities, then compute the EU Taxonomy eligibility with formulas. Read our dedicated article to learn how to assess the EU Taxonomy eligibility.

The second step is assessing the EU Taxonomy alignment, which mainly consists of measuring and establishing whether the activities meet the Technical Screening Criteria (TSC) under the EU Taxonomy. Read our dedicated article to learn how to assess the EU Taxonomy alignment.
