TPN Operations Team Wraps Up December Step Challenge, Promoting Health and Wellness

The TPN Operations team has stepped into the new year on a high note, wrapping up a month-long step challenge in December that encouraged movement and health-conscious living. The friendly competition not only fostered camaraderie among team members but also highlighted the importance of physical activity during the busy run-up to Christmas.

A Step Towards Health

With wellness in mind, the TPN Operations team launched the December Step Challenge, inviting members to track their steps and aim for weekly movement goals. The initiative sought to counteract the sedentary tendencies of desk jobs and promote the many benefits of regular activity, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress, and enhanced energy levels.

"We wanted to create an engaging way to prioritise health during a time when it’s easy to get caught up in work (and the sofa) when the weather is cold and the days are short," said Dan Elliott, Day Hub manager. "This challenge reminded us to keep moving and stay active. We knew that encouragement may not be enough on the coldest of days, so we added a buy-in element with 'winner take all' for added motivation."

Fostering Friendly Competition

Participants tracked their steps using fitness devices and apps with shared leaderboards to motivate one another. The challenge ignited friendly rivalries and teamwork as employees encouraged one another to stay consistent. Whether walking during lunch breaks, taking the stairs, or adding an extra evening stroll, every step counted.

In total, the participants logged over 3.5 million steps (3,561,092), with some individuals smashing personal bests and inspiring others to push their limits.

Celebrating the Achievements

"The December Step Challenge was not just about steps; it was about creating healthy habits that we can carry forward," said Charlotte Crawford, Operations Supervisor. "It reminded us of the importance of taking care of ourselves so we can be at our best personally and professionally. Getting steps in doesn't take any fancy equipment—though a good pair of trainers helps!"

Looking Ahead

What started as a bit of fun, the December Step Challenge has sparked discussions about making such wellness initiatives a regular feature across the wider business. With plans for new challenges and activities in 2025, the team is committed to prioritizing health and fostering a culture that values both physical and mental well-being.

As the TPN team strides into the new year, their December Step Challenge is a reminder of what can be achieved with a little motivation, teamwork, and the resolve to take that first step toward better health in 2025.
