Trelleborg has developed a range of technologies to aid pilots over the entire course of their journey, all the way to the last 200 meters as a ship comes in to berth.

Trelleborg Piloting & Navigation provides Portable Pilot Unit (PPU) units that can be generally described as a portable, computer-based system that a pilot brings on-board a vessel to use as a decision-support tool for navigating in confined waters. Interfaced to a positioning sensor such as GPS/DGPS and using some form of electronic chart display, it shows the vessel’s position/movement in real-time.

In combination with our SafePilot, SafeTug and SafeCaptain software. These systems ensure safe and efficient maneuvering in confined waters helping with docking and mooring. A great support tool for critical offshore operations. Examples of these offshore operations are LNG carriers tandem loading/offloading, SPM-loading/offloading buoy and mooring side to side with an FLNG unit.

All these highly critical operations can be done with the highest precision thanks to the high-end RTK positioning system CAT-MAX that gives you a stand-alone real-time positioning system including real-time pitch & roll enabling under keel clearance monitoring as well. This under keel clearance unit is helpful as swell and wind will have an effect on your mooring position.

The CAT MAX units communicate with each other and the pilot's display via Wi-Fi, ensuring a stable and long range connection. The built-in gyroscopic motion sensor offers precise and independent rate of turn, roll, and pitch, allowing for very accurate predictions when doing turns and navigating in confined waters.
