Trump’s Hypocrisy on Full Display in LA Crackdown

Donald Trump’s June 9th, 2025 outburst on Truth Social offers yet another case study in political hypocrisy and performative outrage. In response to largely peaceful protests in Los Angeles, sparked by outrage over the Trump administration’s escalating immigrant deportations - and even though it was constitutionally illegal for him to do so - Trump claimed he had sent in the National Guard and the Marines to “protect ICE officers from angry mobs.” Meanwhile, the presence of the National Guard and the Marines he demanded be sent to California, has only added fuel to the fire resulting in more damage and mayhem!

Let’s be clear: Although Trump likes to claim that everybody and anybody who does what he doesn't like or want are "paid agitators", these “mobs” were PRIMARILY everyday citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest. And the source of their anger? Trump’s betrayal of his own promises where he had assured the public his deportation policies would focus solely on criminals. That was a lie. Families, workers, and longtime residents with no criminal records are being rounded up and expelled. The streets are filled with people simply fed up with Trump's gaslighting.

But Trump wasn’t done. In a disturbing escalation, he wrote: “IF THEY SPIT, WE WILL HIT. Such disrespect will not be tolerated!”—a threat that sounds more like a street brawl than a presidential directive. It’s a far cry from his usual claim to support “peaceful protest,” when convenient.

This is the same man who once downplayed white nationalist marches and defended the January 6 rioters. Let’s not forget that on January 20, 2025, during the first day of his second term, Trump granted clemency to over 1,500 people convicted of offenses related to the January 6, 2021 US Capital attack. This includes people who the juries voted to send to prison for up to 22 years for seditious conspiracy.

For example, Peter Schwartz of Pennsylvania was sentenced by a “jury of his peers” to 14 years in prison on 10 charges, including four felony charges of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers while using a dangerous weapon. It should also be noted that Schwartz also had a prior criminal history of 38 felony convictions dating back to 1991. However, when actual citizens of the USA protest Trump's lies and his willingness to lie to them, his choice is to ignore “safety” - and decency - and respond with military force and threats of violence.

Trump KNOWS what he is doing: He is working hard to create enough confusion, frustration, and anger to have people start fighting in the streets so that he can declare martial law: When a U.S. President imposes martial law, its imposition means that the MILITARY AUTHORITY takes over normal civilian functions such as LAWS, COURTS & CIVIL LIBERTIES. In other words he - DONALD TRUMP - would get to make ALL the decisions for the entire USA – and there will be no appeal and NOTHING anybody can do to force him to change his mind!
