🪄 Turn AI Slop into AI Gold

OpenAI has released an open source AI model that anyone can run on a high end consumer laptop, and any organization can incorporate in their device or software.

What will this mean for you?

The world is about to see an even greater explosion of AI essays, AI code, and AI art.

I.e. blatantly generic AI outputs that makes everyone groan, or ““AI slop”.

Unless you know the recipe for turning those bland, one-size-fits-all outputs into work that still feels unmistakably human. 

There are two pressure points where your skills transform generic AI output into gold.

Mastery of these can 10x your impact while everyone else drowns in sameness.

The two leverage points are:

(1) Prompt engineering the input to teach the model everything from your taste to the specific format of output you want.

(2) Post-processing the output to refine it into something that “pops”.

Start with the first leverage point, the prompt engineering. To do this well, your prompt needs to be 500+ words, but you can start by trying out a prompt such as this:

SYSTEM: You are a [role] writing for [audience]. Tone: [tone]. Format: [format].

USER: Here’s an example of perfect output:

Generate a first draft about: “[topic]”. Include: [key points].        

Got the first draft? Post-process the output.

• Add a personal anecdote, metaphor, or data points only you can supply
• Real photos, diagrams and visuals you have created
• Real quotes from your colleagues, customers and others only you have access to

You can either be the average person who uses AI to crank out generic sludge… or you can be the extraordinary person who uses AI to amplify your impact.
