Turn your inner influencer ON!

So, you have a flourishing career, you are creating fellowship across the upcoming generation of leaders…. you earn accolades for your good work, then what? What can you do to profit from the momentum and visibility you carry?

My working thought is to become an influencer.

The term "Influencer" is used to refer to a person who has a certain credibility on a specific topic and who, in addition, has a considerable number of loyal followers on Social Networks, making their content capable of influencing purchasing habits or consumption of thousands of users.

This term, although it is not new, is coined by individuals whose message is impactful.

They are usually regarded for their positive reputation and use different platforms to engage several communities and trigger action. Their fellowship takes their opinion into account before making specific decisions relevant to their area of influence.

I was recently inspired by Alumni of My Alma Mater - INTEC - who shared the recognition for their professional impact.

Known around the world within different professional branches, these are people who, have a great ability to communicate, attract the right audience and generate content on a constant basis to use their influence in different ways, for example:

Raising Awareness:

Dr. Balcácer who is recognized by his work on epidemic diseases and hot currency in times of COVID-19, continues to use his platforms to retain awareness of longtime unsolved problems like the treatment and support management of individuals living with AIDS.

 Inspiring others to work for what they want by sharing their own stories:

Kheilydis Acevedo, who through her publications reveals what she considers the key to a successful professional career by being determined in her goals and ambitions; learning from her mistakes, and coming up stronger every time.

Since I don’t see myself TikToking; I realized I could take a page from my peer's book and embrace the role of an influencer in a different way: Standing up for what I believe in and ensuring to connect different needs and possibilities across the ecosystems I actively take part of.

My plea is to elevate the voices of others to places where I have to opportunity to bring the unheard, the unseen and the marginated. To use my visibility and choose to be more influential by finding ways to voice the thoughts of parts of the organization whose voice counts but doesn’t carry yet… I ask you to keep me accountable by reminding me that every work situation presents opportunities to encourage others to act. And that despite the foreseen seatbacks, I shall let nothing stop me!

In case you are up for it, here is also an invitation: Figure out where you can be an influencer, something that brings you joy and helps fulfill your personal purpose while benefiting other parts of an ecosystem:

Raise Awareness and make a positive impact for the causes you care about.

Share the Facts and Figures: Bring up the facts and statistics to your meetings with Senior Executives in your company, especially those they were previously unaware of. Often, Senior Executives get filtered information and are most often unacquainted with these facts and figures. If the topic is sensitive, even more need for you to step up and enlighten an audience.

Stand up for what you believe in: be a consistent voice challenging the status quo and standing behind your words, be flexible enough to reflect and take an active role in the solution creation.

Share Stories: Don’t let your success stories go wasted. Let your audience know how you have been making a difference and share with them the different points of view coming out of your discussions.
