Two Minutes on a Tuesday – Volume 11
"SD" said I missed the point
Three weeks ago, I wrote "Two Minutes on a Tuesday – Volume 8: The Overton Window." I asserted that we were living in a time where boundaries are being expanded, and norms are being questioned.
I had a conversation with "SD" (she didn’t want attribution). She told me my Overton Window post was cute but not accurate. The "window" being opened wasn’t the Overton Window; it was the window in our homes, apartments, trailers, and dorm rooms. The window wasn’t opened to create increased academic debate; American citizens, through their vote on November 5th, opened their windows so they could stick their heads outside and scream, "I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore."
For those non-boomers, this reference is from the nearly 50-year-old movie, Network. It's a scene where the character Howard Beale, played by Peter Finch, urges viewers to express their frustration with the state of the world. You can watch the movie clip on YouTube. Go ahead, watch the clip. I’ll wait.
So, in a time when an entire generation feels it is being denied the American Dream or worse, guilted for wanting a fulfilling career, a home, and a family – a peaceful revolt has occurred.
I’m placing my bets on:
“Two Minutes on a Tuesday” is a wildly successful (I’m eleven for eleven) approach to engage with you by sharing insights, quick tips, inspiring quotations, challenges to overcome, industry updates, and success stories in short but consistent LinkedIn posts.
