Unity of Exixtence

Man's innate fear complex was recognized by the ancient scriptures. So they tried to root it out by removing the wrong notions about the ultimate truths of life, for this complex is a mental on. The Brihadaranyaka Upnishad points out that fear is generated when there is the existence of another.

As there is one Brahman existing in the universe, there is really no cause of fear. This unity of existence can neither be proved nor disproved through reason alone. It is a statement of fact intuited by saints and seers of all ages and nations. in vague, indistinct presence is felt in the hearts of men, in their avowedly cherished aspiration of one world. Sri Krishna, quite in line with the ancient masters, emphasizes this unity of existence or ultimate reality while revealing his true nature to Arjuna. In his universal aspect he is Brahman Himself and not merely the son of a cowherd woman. He is God Himself, and as the Bhagavata points out, the Reality designated by the words Brahman, Paramatman and Bhagvan is one and the same. In Him are all the created beings strung together as gems of a necklace on a string. He holds the whole universe in a part of Himself. Taking refuge in Him man goes beyond fear and conflict and attains peace. This is the secret of secrets.

Now, this is a metaphysical truth. The truth of it may not be accepted by materialists as a fact logically proved, dialectical incontrovertible and scientifically arrived at. But the vast practical utility of it cannot be doubted. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. We cannot clearly express the nature of electricity but we can use it to our best advantage.

The really intelligent man is he who goes to a mango grove, makes friends with the owner and begins to eat mangoes and not the man who goes on counting the leaves - as a parable of Sri Ramakrishna has it.
