Use Technology to Connect to the World around us - Edge AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT
Simple Introduction - What
In our daily lives and for businesses as well, connecting and sensing the environment around us enhances our abilities and automates many repetitive tasks for us.
A farmer needs to monitor his/her crops in real time and be notified when they are thirsty or when then a bug is devouring the crops.
A factory needs to know when one of its machines is overheating and needs maintenance. This enables preventative measures to be taken BEFORE any severe damage happens to the expensive factory floor machines.
Home consumers can monitor their homes remotely (and adjust the temperature or turn of the lights remotely).
In Healthcare, sensory enhancements help detect falls and alert caregivers. Heart rate monitors allow doctors, in another area, to monitor the health of their patients.
Car drivers may take advantage of this technology when they ask questions or ask questions of their car (show me the map of this street). Also, when car cameras monitor the roads and a warning is flashed if another car is getting too close.
Simple Introduction - Why
We are all prone to make mistakes. Automating repetitive tasks frees the business employee or consumer up to do other important tasks.
Energy efficiency: doing maintenance ahead of time spares not only technical employee’s time. It also makes effective use of valuable resources including electricity.
Resource conservation: when a farmer can detect plant disease in advance, they can take measures to prevent the destruction of the whole crop yield. And water is used wisely when she knows how much water the soil really needs.
Simple Introduction - How
In the last article we discussed AIoT, the combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The combination of these 2 technologies allows us to monitor our environment using sensors. And to make decisions quickly and react to what is happening in real time. The article also discussed the expected growth rate for AIoT.
In the Next Article we will discuss the Technical Details that enable Edge AI.
