They are a key part of the vibe coding trend, since they enable the “tell the AI to build it” approach. However, whether AI helps or hurts your project depends heavily on how you use it.

One mistake teams make is treating an AI like a magic box: giving it an "uber prompt" (a giant, all-encompassing request) to build a complex feature in one go. For example, imagine telling an AI, “Build me a new cloud-native order processing system integrated with our existing e-commerce platform. It should handle user authentication, order validation, inventory checks, payment processing, and generate reports. Go!” This single prompt is extremely broad. What usually happens? The AI will attempt something, but uber-prompts often fail in practice:

  • The request is so large and complex that the AI’s response may be superficial, incomplete, or disjointed. Large language models have a fixed context window and can’t output an entire multi-component system’s code coherently in one shot.

We also test failure scenarios: what if the LoggingService is down? (Our services should continue working and just log the issue, which we verify happened in logs.) What if the log volume is high? (We might do a load test to ensure the queue and database can keep up.) After verifying the feature in a staging environment, we deploy the new AuditLoggingService alongside updates to Service X and Y into production, following our regular deployment process. Throughout, we have documentation (the initial design and any dev notes) to help the operations team understand the new moving parts.
