Victoria Views @Arundel Crescent, Plymouth

Harrington Homes are excited to share more information about Victoria Views @Arundel Crescent, Plymouth.

A modern collection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, with stunning views over Victoria Park. The development has previously been long forgotten and a number of developers had investigated the potential development, but none took the steps to do so. Harrington Homes felt it had the vision to bring this piece of land back to life.

Each of the new apartments being built will comprise of an open plan living space with the benefit of allocated parking for many of the residents.

Site History: The land in which we are building upon was originally part of a Victorian terrace, sadly this was bombed during WW2. One of the properties took a direct hit, whilst the neighbouring properties suffered extensive damage. At some stage possibly for safety reasons those affected homes were demolished. This has left the site unoccupied and in a quite derelict state for some 75 years. The site was hit during an overnight bombing raid on the 21st April 1941. See attached the map of Plymouth which shows the extent of that evenings bombing. We’ve zoomed in on a second picture that shows where Arundel Crescent is located. As you can see it was hit, all quite fascinating.

If you click on the image below you will be taken to Plymouth City Councils records for the 'Bomb Book' Title: Plymouth Blitz "Bomb Book" page 40, noted as Air Raid 38.

Victoria Park: The development directly abuts and overlooks the park. Before the creation of the park the area comprised saltmarshes at the head of Stonehouse Creek known as Deadlake. Molesworth Road at the western end of the park was once a toll bridge allowing horse and coach traffic to travel safely between Devonport and Plymouth. Originally designed to be completed for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897, and named in her honour. The park wasn't completed until 1905, four years after the great lady's death.

The former park-keeper's lodge is in the centre of the park, which was formally opened to the public in 1903 this is located opposite the playground and is now run as a popular café servicing the locals. During WW2 there were 3 underground shelters built in Victoria Park to protect the population during the Blitz.

Victoria Park is a good sized park (six hectares) immediately north of the Stonehouse area of Plymouth. With large flat grass areas, a great play area with wheelchair accessible features, a small cycle track, multi-use games area and bowling green as well as beautiful, mature trees - it's a lovely space for a day out.
