Virtualization :-

Virtualization technology is being much popular these days. And there are lots of reason behind this. We will discuss what this virtualization is and what are those features which are making it so much adorable and popular in corporate world.

Word to word definition:- we will say that Its a technology which allow us to use the hardware stuff as a virtual stuff. It makes it flexible and easy to use and manage. It allows us to use standard hardware as a central base point and abstract it into multiple other infrastructure (called Virtual machines). We happen to add/remove resources(CPU,MEMORY,STORAGE) to the central base point and can increase decrease resource according to the requirements.

Benefits:-

If we talk about benefits of Virtualization, we can list many of them but here will mention some prominent ones:-

1. Independent of hardware Restrictions:- In past days, it was really tough to increase or change the hardware in production because it require all the server downtime to open up the chassis and remove the hardware like RAM and install the big amount of that. But while using Virtualization , this is not a problem now. We can simply add Resources and then increase and decrease them on servers with few clicks only.
2. Cost Effective:- If we are using Virtualization, we don't need to buy costly server hardware. We need to buy some high end Virtualization supported Devices and then we can configure multiple servers on them in virtual form. This is will save the space as well. It does require less IT team to manage IT infra as well except few Virtualization experts.
3. High Availability:- The biggest feature or benefits of it is it provide high availability of every Server, services or application running on this platform. There are lots of features available, we can make use of to avail this high availability ie. HA, FT, vMotion, SvMotion, DRS etc.
4. Disaster recovery enhancement:- With the advent of Virtualization , now its possible to fight with disaster recovery easily. By using SRM feature of this , we are capable of creating "Recovery site" with the actual production site and can use it in the case of any disaster.
5. Saving Energy :- By converting physical servers to virtual server, we are capable of saving a lot of energy and by doing that we can save a lot of money .
6. Test Environments:- We can simply create testing environments to test applications. And by doing this we can we sure about the functionality of them in the mean time means how they will work in the actual production environment. We can create multiple OS platform to test the applications.
7. Deployment is faster:- Now we can deploy server as fast as we can & it require few clicks only. It does not require to have big chassis and settle down all the hardware stuff. We can virtually assign the amount of hardware we need to assign and with can install the OS virtually on them. and within few min, you can use the servers in the environment.
8. Old application support:- With the span of time, every manufacturer company stops the support for their old application and for their platforms. But virtualization help in that as well. We can have any of the old environment in virtual box till we need to use because it support everything application and hosted platform for that as well.
