Ways to FAIL on LinkedIn
Real, raw, and ruthlessly honest lessons to help you master LinkedIn and build a brand that actually grows.
Ever sent a connection request like this?
“Hi, I’d like to connect with you on LinkedIn.”
Yeah... we've all done it.
But let me tell you the harsh truth — Generic profiles + lazy invites = IGNORE.
This week, I read a brutally honest rant from copywriter Tony Stark Policci, and I’m borrowing the fire from that post because it’s a wake-up call we all need.
🚫 Why Most People FAIL on LinkedIn
You’re not building a network. You’re tossing half-baked spaghetti into the LinkedIn void and hoping something sticks.
Here's how to fix that 👇
✅ The 3-Step Anti-Failure Formula
1️⃣ Personalize Your Connection Requests
The connection request is your “digital handshake.” Don’t be limp.
Bad:
Hi [Name], I’d like to connect with you.
Better:
“Hi [Name], I came across your post on [topic] and loved your insight. Would love to stay connected and learn more from your journey!”
Pro tip: Add humor, curiosity, or mutual interests (even cat videos if you’re bold 😼).
2️⃣ Build a Profile That Deserves a “Yes”
Minimum Viable Profile (MVP): ✅ Clear Profile Picture (professional but you) ✅ Magnetic Headline (not just "Student at XYZ") ✅ A 3-sentence Summary: Who you are, what you do, and what you want.
If someone clicks “View Profile” — don’t greet them with blank space.
3️⃣ Show Up for Real — Daily, Not Desperately
💡 Spend 1 hour/day doing this:
You grow by engaging — not ghosting.
💬 Final Thoughts
The easiest way to fail on LinkedIn?
Do the bare minimum and expect exponential results.
The fastest way to grow?
Be real. Be curious. Be consistent. (And for heaven’s sake, fill out your profile).
