We need more mentors like you!

Someone out there needs your knowledge and experience. Could you be the mentor they’re looking for?

I’m Rachel, a talent lead in the talent team within organisational development at Guy's and St Thomas'. I’m also a registered mentor.

Alongside my colleague Sarah, I help to look after the coaching and mentoring service. Our mission is to make sure that everyone who wants to develop their career has the right guidance and support from those who have walked the path before them.

Mentoring is one of the most powerful ways we can support, uplift, and empower each other in the workplace. At Guy’s and St Thomas’, we are building a strong network of staff mentors through our Mentoring Hub, and we need you to be part of it.

Why become a mentor?

Mentoring isn’t just about giving back. It’s a journey of personal and professional growth for both mentors and mentees. Here’s why registering as a mentor could be one of the most rewarding things you do this year:

  • empower others – your guidance can change someone’s career trajectory, boost their confidence, and help them navigate challenges with greater ease
  • develop your leadership skills – guiding others strengthens your ability to communicate, listen actively, and inspire
  • continuous professional development (CPD) – registered mentors at Guy's and St Thomas' get access to exclusive CPD sessions designed to develop their mentoring skills
  • expand your network – you’ll connect with colleagues across different departments and levels, opening doors to new opportunities
  • personal fulfilment – there’s nothing quite like seeing someone you’ve mentored grow, achieve, and succeed

Nervous about getting started? We’ve got you!

If you’re keen to help others but feel unsure about mentoring, that’s absolutely fine! Many experienced professionals hesitate, thinking they don’t have the 'right' skills, but the truth is, you already do.

To support you, I run a monthly Introduction to Mentoring Skills session where you’ll:

  • get practical mentoring techniques to boost your confidence
  • learn effective ways to structure your mentoring conversations
  • discover how to bring out the best in your mentee while refining your own leadership abilities

Finding the right fit: the mentor-mentee matching process

We understand that successful mentoring relationships thrive on compatibility. That’s why our mentoring scheme includes a matching process. Mentees can search for and contact a mentor who aligns with their career goals and aspirations. This ensures a meaningful and impactful partnership from the start.

We want all our mentoring relationships to work, and the best way to make that happen is by making it easier to connect. That’s why we need you to register. If if you’re not on the hub, your potential mentee match won’t be able to find you!

Plus, when you register, you’ll receive a cool pin badge so everyone knows that you empower others.

Ready to make a difference?

If you’re ready to share your knowledge, inspire others, and grow in the process, register on the Mentoring Hub today.

To find out more, search 'mentoring' on the staff intranet. If you have any questions, drop me a message on Teams, I'd be happy to help.

Together, let’s create a culture of learning, support, and success at Guy's and St Thomas'.

My name is Iulian, and I have a simple dream – to build a small, modest home of my own. I spent years working abroad, saving every penny I could. But along the way, I was scammed and lost part of my hard-earned savings. When I returned home, instead of support, I faced judgment and rejection. I even lost the connection with my family while standing up for myself. Still, I haven’t given up. I believe in dignity, in rebuilding, and in the kindness of others. With your support, I know I can finish building a place to call home. Every donation, every share, every kind word means the world to me. Here is my GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/6cb6d96f Thank you from the bottom of my heart!❤️

Really important. I've managed to mentor a few doctors in the past and seen their careers flourish.
