We thank you, Mark Ebert!

We thank you, Mark Ebert!

There’s no better person to represent the definition ‘industry stalwart’. Those who have worked with Mark Ebert can attest to his impact in the HVAC and data centre world.

After an incredible 38-year career, Mark has chosen to retire, and we wish him the very best.

We’ve seen him get involved in equipment ranging from Hi-wall splits to 5,000 kW absorption chillers, projects from 4 kW precision science labs, right through to multi-megawatt data centres.

If you’re not familiar with Mark’s long and successful career, he started out in the UK and Germany working as sales engineer for Carrier Air Conditioning.

He once told me one of his first projects was a natural gas processing plant for British Gas, which is an astonishing reflection considering we’re now headed for a 100% renewable grid in Australia.

After an incredible 24-years at Carrier, Mark packed up and moved down under to join the data centre world with Stulz. He spent 11 years in this technical solutions role – another long stint!

In August 2019, Mark joined us at Vertiv Australia and New Zealand as Associate Director, Thermal Product and Solutions. It’s been a short, but sweet tenure. We’ve absolutely loved having him around, not only for his tremendous hard work and knowledge, but his remarkable character, warmth and cheer he brought to the team.

The industry feels the same way. Jeff Van Zetten, chief of engineering and design at NEXTDC said “Mark Ebert is a true gentlemen and absolute pleasure to work with. He’s been a fantastic example and professional inspiration to me and the NEXTDC engineering team, keenly supporting our next generation of developing engineers. Few people keep things in perspective as excellently as Mark does – he appreciates how important it is to push the democratisation of industry knowledge sharing to achieve the common goal of decarbonised infrastructure. We’re big kids playing Lego and Monopoly in an industry that’s technically challenging and utterly rewarding. Mark, you’ve been a pleasure to team with.”

Mark Hubner, NEXTDC’s lead mechanical systems engineer, said “I’ve worked with Mark for several years across his roles at Vertiv and Stulz, and he’s always been my ‘go-to question guy’. Across the many projects we’ve worked on, and challenges faced together, there was always a sense of collaborative problem solving and a positive attitude. Mark is truly one of the best in the data centre industry for both capability and personal touch, and this impression won’t be forgotten.”

Cameron Madden, Mechanical Systems Specialist APAC at Airtrunk agrees; “Mark’s been awesome to learn from and look up to. On many occasions he dedicated his time to our younger team, taking them through the HVAC bare basics – every lesson taught was gold. Mark, you’ve certainly set a great precedent in our growing industry – a true case of going above and beyond!”

“We at Stantec absolutely loved working with Mark,” said Ravi Ravi, Stantec’s Mechanical Engineer. “His ever-helping attitude was highly valuable when workshopping the big design challenges. I found his enthusiasm receiving a phone call and helping with urgent items, that too with a smile and calm demeanour, the greatest asset in what is a high pressure, fast-paced mission critical sector.”

Mark, you’ve absolutely made an impact on all of us and hugely shaped our industry. We’re grateful of your leadership and guidance throughout your time and career here in Australia. Our Sydney team won’t be the same without you!

It’s been a pleasure and we wish you all the best in your retirement.

Congratulations Mark I can’t believe you are retiring when it’s younger and better looking you are getting every day…. Benjamin Button springs to mind. I really enjoyed our short time working together some years ago and I honoustly say your Technical knowledge and the skill and leadership with how you presented that information to the customer was simply brilliant. Enjoy your retirement and I will be in Aus later this year so I hope you still might come for a beer with one of us working folk for old times sake. Slainte!
