We Are TWIST

TWIST (Together We Invest for Systems Transformation) is a collective of investors, practitioners, and facilitators from around the world who are actively deploying capital and/or facilitating processes for positive systems change.  

With beginnings as a seed planted by Tharald Nustad and Charly Kleissner, TWIST was formally launched at the Katapult Future Fest in May 2022 under the name IMP+. Our collective has been incubated within the Katapult Foundation and is in the process of emerging as a separate organisation. Since inception, members of the TWIST collective have been sharing their work, providing insight into what investing for systems change looks like in practice. These 81 members now span four continents and 16 countries, and have generously contributed 42 case studies to date, each focused on a unique systems investing opportunity. 

Our intention in convening was and is to provide a safe and supportive space for practitioners to share and learn, and a platform for research and publication to document practice and inspire others. Stories from practitioners that emerged included those seeking to transform the food system in Hawai’i, the education system in Mexico, the economic system of Melbourne, and the financial system globally. Together, the Community of Practice has spent many hours engaging in active dialogue, and exploring how these case studies exhibited differences between the more familiar territory of sustainable investing and impact investing, and this emerging field of investing for systems change. 

With this great momentum, TWIST developed four strategic pillars to guide our work: 

I. Building and nurturing our community of investors, practitioners, and facilitators

• As a community, we share our case studies of investing for systems change to facilitate peer to peer learning and collectively deepen our work.

II. Building evidence for investing in systems change

• Together with academic partners, we gather data from our case studies to build evidence for the field of investing for systems change.

III. Contributing to awareness, clarity and education

• Through storytelling, speaking engagements, events, and distilling collective learnings, we contribute to awareness, clarity and education for the field. 

IIII. Catalysing capital for systems change

• Through collaboration as a collective, we catalyse capital towards systems change. 

Weaving across these four strategic pillars is the fifth strategic pillar: enabling a personal, team, and collective mindset shift. 

Ultimately, TWIST envisions a world in which all capitals are effectively activated for positive systems transformation, so that mother earth and all living beings can thrive. TWIST’s role is activating the investor community, and its enabling environment, for positive systems change. We invite you to join us on this mission.
