Featured Article: Change Management Risk Assessment Framework | A Step-by-Step Guide for Strategic Execution

“Change risk is a reflection of what the organisation can truly absorb. It reveals how aligned the strategy is, how ready the culture is, and whether leadership is willing to make hard choices before momentum takes over.” — Julien Haye

Hello everyone,

Happy Monday. I hope your week is off to a purposeful and focused start.

Last week, we explored The Four Stages of Psychological Safety in Risk Management, using Timothy R. Clark’s model to examine how psychological safety shapes escalation, ownership, and challenge in risk teams. From inclusion to governance, we looked at how silence, or the lack of it, can make or break decision-making under pressure.

This week, I’m returning to a topic I first explored in 2023 and have now significantly refreshed: Change Management Risk Assessment.

In the updated article, Change Management Risk Assessment Framework: A Step-by-Step Guide for Strategic Execution, I examine how fragmented approaches to change risk continue to drive strategic and operational failures and what we can do to change that.

  • Why change risk needs to be assessed from strategy, not just delivery
  • How FCA guidance and the TSB outage reshaped expectations
  • Seven foundational capabilities for managing change effectively
  • A practical framework to align change risk with operational resilience, governance, and board oversight
  • Common warning signs that change is off track and how to catch them early

If your risk or resilience teams are grappling with how to manage the real impact of change, this guide offers a structured path forward.

I’d love to hear how you’re embedding change risk into your wider frameworks. What challenges do you see in practice?

Wishing you a week of proactive insight and aligned execution,

Best, Julien

1️⃣ Governance Gaps: Where Does Disconnection Run Deepest in Governance?

Cultural silos are not just structural. They reflect deeper breaks in trust and understanding across the Three Lines. Our latest poll shows that 43% of respondents believe the Second Line, covering risk and compliance, feels the most misunderstood or isolated.

📍 43% said the Second Line feels most isolated

📍 34% pointed to the Third Line (audit)

📍 16% identified the First Line (business or operations)

📍 7% said none or not applicable

What This Tells Us

These responses suggest that oversight teams often lack visibility and influence. When risk and audit functions feel disconnected, and the First Line sees governance as an obstacle, alignment suffers.

Fixing this is not just about roles or reporting lines. It takes clear expectations, shared outcomes, and leadership that models collaboration and trust. A diagnostic is now in development to help organisations understand where silos are forming, how they impact decisions, and what to change.

If you’re interested in improving collaboration across your Three Lines, now is the time to take part (LAST CALL)

📊 Ongoing Poll: How Often Is Vendor Risk Reviewed?

Knowing when to act depends on what you track. But too often, vendor risk is reviewed only after something goes wrong. Our latest poll explores shows that 70% of respondents assess third-party risk for their most critical suppliers only on an ad-hoc basis.
