The Weekly Tech Decanter - June 18th, 2025
Welcome to this week's edition of The Weekly Tech Decanter, where I carefully pour out refined technology knowledge that distills complex tech concepts into digestible insights. Like a fine Bordeaux, today's tech news offers a complex bouquet of developments worth savoring.
But before I dive into this week's tech news:
💭Today’s Thoughts 💭
Happy Wednesday!
I made it back to Maryland on Wednesday evening, and while catching up is never fun, it’s always good to be home! Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the conference I just attended in Denver, and one thing is abundantly clear: AI, especially Agentic AI, is something we’re going to keep hearing about and will need to adopt in some form, particularly when it comes to process automation. 🤖
You might be wondering, what exactly is Agentic AI? Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that demonstrate autonomous behavior, acting as agents within an environment to achieve specific goals. Unlike traditional AI systems that require human intervention for decision-making, Agentic AI operates independently, relying on its internal models, learning algorithms, and decision-making processes to navigate and interact with its surroundings.
The word “independently” might sound intimidating, but should it be? I remember when my Ford Explorer, years ago, could park itself, interacting with its surroundings, turning the wheel, and parallel parking without me touching anything, and I thought that was pretty cool! 😎
Of course, I might be oversimplifying things, because compliance and security for these tools still require strict regulations in the business world, and those rules are still being crafted today. What’s also clear to me is that I need to carefully adopt these tools internally so that I can help my clients when they inevitably ask: “How do I do this? How can I incorporate Agentic AI into my business, and what should my strategy look like?”
Throughout my career, I’ve never recommended any tool to a client without first trying and vetting it myself. After all, how can you help anyone or give advice about a subject if you’re not an expert on it?
So, stay tuned! there’s more to come on Atruent 's learning journey as we explore Agentic AI together!
Let's uncork the latest!
🔒 Cybersecurity Insights 🔒
🚀The Kimsuky group is sending phishing emails with malicious research papers that, when opened, install malware and allow remote access to victims’ networks. This campaign targets academics and exploits trusted academic communications.
🚀 A fake loan app called “RapiPlata” was removed from official app stores after stealing user data and using it to harass victims, but it remains available on third-party sites as part of a broader SpyLoan malware campaign.
🚀 Microsoft has issued urgent Windows updates to fix a critical vulnerability (CVE-2025-33073) that could let attackers take over devices; users should update immediately.
🚀The new XFiles malware targets Windows users through tech support scams, stealing passwords and selling them on the dark web.
📐Compliance Updates 📐
🚀 The RISE Act would require AI developers to disclose key details about their models for legal protection, aiming to increase transparency while holding professionals accountable for AI use.
🚀 Organizations are balancing AI innovation and compliance by strengthening internal governance, fostering collaboration, and prioritizing transparency amid evolving regulations.
📈 Technology Market Trends 📈
🚀 AI agents are being introduced in healthcare to automate tasks like scheduling and billing, but challenges with data integration and reliability remain.
💡Tech Innovations💡
🚀 Sony’s Reon Pocket Pro is a wearable device that cools or heats your skin using thermoelectric modules, automatically adjusting temperature based on environmental data. The latest model offers improved fit, dual modules, and up to 15 hours of battery life. (📝My birthday is coming up...asking for a friend 😇)
🚀 The rapid growth of AI is sharply increasing electricity demand, straining power grids and outpacing the deployment of renewable energy, which raises concerns about sustainability and reliance on fossil fuels.
I hope you've enjoyed this distilled selection of technology news.
Until next week!
Cheers! (or À votre santé!)

3moHi, Aida! A great post, as always. I'm consistently reminding people when discussing AI, and specifically Agenetic AI, that it's not like we would just set the robot and forget about them to grind away in oblivion. Work roles where this technology is used will evolve to include (human) oversight of the work to ensure that what is being sought after is being achieved. Just like with supervision of a human worker, yeah? I'm also shaking my head at the weaponized research papers. Academics have it hard enough. Publish or perish... or get infected with malware? Sheesh. Thanks again for your insights!
