Welcome to the latest edition of the Research and Innovation newsletter
As we step into the new year, I am excited to share some fantastic news and updates from the research and innovation (R&I) department. 2025 promises to be a year of groundbreaking discoveries, impactful projects, and remarkable achievements.
To begin, a huge congratulations to Professor Chris Gale and Dr Ramesh on their pioneering trial designed to help doctors identify more individuals at risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF). Their work exemplifies the kind of innovation that positively impacts our patients' lives. We also extend our congratulations to Dr Kerrie Davies, who was recognised with an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours—a testament to her extraordinary contributions.
In addition, kudos to the radiotherapy team for their revolutionary MRI-only radiotherapy technique. As the second team in the UK to perform this cutting-edge treatment, they are setting new standards in cancer care.
These are just a few of the inspiring stories you’ll find in this edition. As you read on, you’ll discover even more highlights from our vibrant research and innovation community.
We’re also thrilled to announce some exciting events for the months ahead. Our Research and Innovation Week in February will spotlight our groundbreaking activities and provide a platform for collaboration and inspiration.
Happy reading, and here’s to more accomplishments in the coming year!

Engagement and Outreach
Bringing health research to the heart of the community
Our patient and public involvement and engagement team hosted an outreach event with the Chinese community at the Beeston Village Community Centre. A total of 34 participants from the local Chinese community attended, assisted by two interpreters who facilitated translation.
The event aimed to raise awareness of health research, highlighting the importance of diverse participation, and addressing health topics such as heart attacks, atrial fibrillation, and strokes.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing a desire for us to return soon for additional sessions on new health topics.
Data performance and Library publications
We are happy to showcase some of our research performance on participant recruitment to research studies at LTHT.
Pick of the Publications – from LTHT Library and Knowledge Service
Throughout 2024, the Library & Knowledge Service has collated monthly reports drawn from key healthcare literature databases, compiling all newly published journal articles with at least one LTHT staff member as an author. Over the last year, we added over 1380 articles to the publications list. The list can be explored or downloaded on the library website or accessed via Sharepoint.
