What a Blueberry-Loving Bigfoot Can Teach Us About Storytelling
Let’s be real—most employer brand campaigns are… forgettable. They follow a familiar script: stock photos, buzzwords, vague promises of “collaboration” and “culture.” But every once in a while, something truly different shows up.
Enter The Quest.
In case you missed it, The Quest is a first-of-its-kind employer brand series featuring Barry—a blueberry-obsessed Bigfoot—on his epic journey to land a job at Fruitist . Yes, you read that right. It's ridiculous. And somehow, it works.
We're experimenting with modular storytelling in this AI video employer brand series. If you're seeing this for the first time, you can learn more about the initiative here (📍 How We're Building “The Quest”: An Open-Source Experiment in AI Storytelling).
Episode 2 just dropped, and it’s even better than the first. Barry encounters campers, learns about Fruitist Jumbo blueberries, steals a laptop (we're not endorsing grand larceny, he'll be sure to return it later), and begins plotting his new career goals.
But The Quest isn’t just whimsy. It’s strategic.
It's a top-of-funnel media play to create awareness of Fruitist and our employer brand.
We’re not in the “culture deck” era anymore. We’re in the “content era.” Candidates want to feel something. They want to see themselves in your story. And if a mythical forest creature can pull that off, what’s stopping the rest of us?
The Quest is a reminder that great employer branding isn’t about being safe. It’s about taking risks. And sometimes, that means taking a risk on a Bigfoot named Barry.

1moThe use of a quirky character like Barry in "The Quest" is a brilliant strategy; I once saw a brand use humor in recruitment ads, resulting in a 50% increase in applications.
