WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE HEALTHY
Being Healthy: No Single Definition
The word HEALTHY means different things to different people. For example if you are young, your health routine will mostly consist of going to the gym to build muscles or to loose fat. But if you are older your focus might shift and you may want to avoid many of the common diseases like diabetes, hypertension & heart diseases. That’s why being healthy doesn’t have one clear definition or set of rules, you have to live by.
Indicators of General health:
There are things that most experts agree on that you should have or do in order to be considered healthy. In this article I want to focus on most important aspect of healthy living, so that you know what to focus your energy on. So, what does it mean to be healthy? Even though, we do not have a clear cut answer to this question, a good approach is to create a balance of PHYSICAL, MENTAL & EMOTIONAL elements. The most important aspects here will be Exercise, Diet & Mindset.
TRAINING & EXERCISE: You Don’t Need To Hit the Gym Every Day
Being healthy doesn’t mean that you have to be a world class athlete, but it means you are active in some way every day. Even though some people prefer to have a dedicated workout with a defined time frame as their physical activity. You can also start small & just walk more or take the stairs instead of the elevator.
What’s important is not what activity you do but the fact that, you are moving your body in some way or another. This makes you to gradually start working out a little more intensively & then make a schedule & try to stick to it. You don’t need to be hitting the gym every day.
Being healthy is all about finding something that that you love doing, that suits your lifestyle & then commit to it for at least few times a week.
DIET & NUTRITION: Not a rocket science. Anyone can follow a healthy diet.
The next aspect of good health is diet & nutrition or simply, what you put into your body. People get confused by healthy diet & they usually think, it will cost them a lot of money or that they have to deprive themselves of their favourite food. That’s not correct. It is possible to eat healthy on a budget & you don’t need to spend thousands of rupees on the latest super food either. You can eat the food that you love, the only thing that you need to take care is your calorie balance. Moreover, there are countless easy meals you can prepare with the help of fresh fruits, veggies & lean proteins.
I will talk about meal planning in my coming articles, but for now just keep in mind that this is not rocket science & anyone can follow a healthy diet.
MENTAL HEALTH & MINDSET:
Many people have the first two aspects covered with a good workout & a good meal plan but forget that they also need to actively work on their mental health.
Unfortunately, this is not a straightforward because there are not clear cut strategies that will work for everyone. That said, pretty much everyone will benefit from the following two things. Reducing stress & increasing mental well-being & there are proven strategies for both.
Stress reduction comes down to identifying your main source of stress & either eliminating them or at least managing them in a way so that you don’t worry about them all day. I will be posting different videos on how to do this and I suggest you check that out.
Increasing mental well-being is all about creating healthy habits that allow you to build positive relationships with others. Take time for yourself & actively relax.
Doing this is not easy in our hectic schedules but just like with your diet or workout you can dedicate certain time of the day where you actively focus on mental health & try to improve it in a tiny bit every day.
