What Makes Art Truly Valuable? It’s Not What You Think…

In today's art world, it's easy to get swept up in numbers: auction prices, investment returns, trending artists.

But when it comes to collecting art that truly matters, I believe there's a deeper question to ask:

"How does this piece make me feel?"

Because while market value is important, emotional value is what makes a piece timeless.

What Is Market Value?

Market value is the price someone is willing to pay for a piece at a given moment. It fluctuates based on trends, media attention, and supply and demand.

While it’s wise to understand the financial aspects of collecting, art driven only by market value risks becoming just another transaction, detached from meaning.

What Is Emotional Value?

Emotional value is something far more personal and far more lasting. It’s the invisible thread that ties you to a piece:

• A painting that brings you peace when you walk past it.

• A drawing that reminds you of a pivotal moment in your life.

• A sculpture that sparks a conversation with every new guest.

Emotional value doesn’t depreciate over time. In fact, it deepens because it grows with your memories, your milestones, your story.

What Should You Look for When Collecting Art?

When deciding on a piece, I encourage collectors to consider both values:

Does this artwork speak to something in me that feels timeless?

Can I imagine living with this piece through different seasons of my life?

Will it still inspire, move, or comfort me years from now, regardless of trends?

If a work offers emotional connection and holds a strong artistic foundation, then you’re not just making a purchase.

You’re curating your personal legacy.

A Personal Note From My Studio

Every original I create is built with this philosophy in mind. Yes, my collectors invest in high-end, one-of-a-kind artwork. But more importantly, they’re investing in story-driven pieces that stir the soul, works meant to endure not just physically, but emotionally.

Art that speaks across borders. Art that feels as alive decades from now as it does the first time you see it.

Because while market value can fluctuate,

Emotional value is forever.

I often buy for the feeling. Images are also portals to our souls and outer universes.
