New York Plans First Major US Nuclear Plant in Over 15 Years
New York Governor, Kathy Hochul, has directed the state’s public power authority to begin developing a zero-emissions advanced nuclear facility, marking what could become the nation’s first major nuclear project in nearly 20 years. The initiative supports New York’s broader climate goals of reaching 70% renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
The project might use new types of nuclear reactors, like Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), to provide steady and reliable electricity. This would help meet the growing power needs of things like AI and data centers.
What It Means for Business Leaders
This development signals a significant policy shift, integrating nuclear energy into New York's clean energy strategy. Business leaders should monitor this project as it may influence future energy sourcing, regulatory frameworks, and investment opportunities in sustainable infrastructure.

Microsoft’s Massive Carbon Credit Purchase: 2.6M Tons of CO₂ Removed via Sustainable Agriculture
Microsoft just signed a deal to remove 2.6 million metric tons of CO₂ using regenerative agriculture practices, one of the largest carbon removal purchases ever made.
The project uses satellite-monitored soil carbon increases to generate credits over 10+ years. It signals growing demand for credits that deliver real, measurable carbon elimination especially in the Global South. It also reflects a broader trend toward removal-based solutions.
What It Means for Business Leaders
You don’t need Microsoft’s budget to benefit from this shift. High-integrity credits, from soil, reforestation, and beyond are becoming more available. Navigating this evolving landscape requires insight to steer clear of greenwashing and to craft all encompassing strategy that aligns with your business model, risk tolerance, and ESG objectives.
Carbon Innovation
UK Launches Largest Carbon Capture Plant
Tata Chemicals Europe has inaugurated the UK's largest carbon capture facility in Northwich, Cheshire, aiming to recycle 40,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
This project is the first globally to purify and liquefy captured CO₂ for use in manufacturing bicarbonate of soda. The facility's output will serve over 60 countries, primarily for medical treatments like kidney dialysis, as well as applications in water purification, glass production, detergents, pharmaceuticals, food, and animal feed. The plant's annual CO₂ capture is equivalent to removing more than 20,000 cars from the road.
What It Means for Business Leaders
This development exemplifies how industrial sectors can integrate carbon capture into their operations, transforming emissions into valuable products. It highlights the potential for carbon capture technologies to contribute significantly to net-zero targets and offers a model for sustainable industrial practices.

AlliedOffsets Forecasting Voluntary Carbon Market: Forecasting Employment Opportunities
Future carbon market projects could create more than 1 million new jobs in Asia alone, according to base-case projections of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).
These numbers come from new carbon projects expected to launch, not counting jobs from existing initiatives. Analysts used employment data from project design documents across sectors and applied them to forecasted growth. Most new jobs are projected to come from carbon removal efforts, which tend to be more labor-intensive. For scale, the global aviation industry employs around 2.5 million people.
