What If the Most Powerful Therapy Tool Was Right Under Your Nose?
I remember lying on a mat, somewhere between exhaustion and curiosity, surrounded by strangers who had shown up for something called Conscious Connected Breathwork. I wasn’t sure what I expected, but I wasn’t expecting to cry, laugh, and feel a surge of emotional release all within one hour.
There were no psychedelics. No diagnoses. Just breathe.
And yet, I walked out of that room feeling like I had just offloaded a decade of emotional weight.
Now, science is starting to explain why.
Breathwork Isn’t Just Woo, It’s Evidence-Based Mental Health Support
A recent peer-reviewed study published in Communications Psychology (Nature Portfolio) tracked what happens to people during circular breathwork, specifically Holotropic and Conscious-Connected styles.
The researchers found something extraordinary:
✅ As participants hyperventilated through circular breathwork, their CO2 levels dropped significantly.
✅ This shift in physiology triggered altered states of consciousness (ASCs) similar to those induced by psychedelics like psilocybin.
✅ The deeper the ASC, the more likely participants were to report reduced depression and improved well-being—one week later.
These aren’t just peak experiences. They’re meaningful interventions.
Why This Matters Now
We’re in a mental health crisis.
So what are we left with?
We need tools that are accessible, fast-acting, embodied, and trauma-informed.
Breathwork checks all those boxes.
What I’ve Seen Firsthand
In my work as a mental health trainer, speaker, and facilitator, I’ve guided hundreds of people through breath and nervous system regulation techniques.
I’ve seen people drop into parts of themselves they never felt safe enough to touch in talk therapy.
I’ve seen laughter erupt after 20 years of suppressed grief.
I’ve seen people reconnect with their body for the first time after trauma.
And now—backed by science—I can confidently say:
What I offer isn’t just breathwork. It’s a safe space to reset what life has overloaded.

2moAgree entirely. So important. However, not everyone will benefit long term if their autonomic nervous system is compromised and they simply cannot breathe properly because the signals from the central nervous system are telling them something different. Example - just treated a 19 year old male with breathing issues since childhood, asthma, anxiety, heart palpitations, depression and chronic fatigue. Talking through his history as I worked on his body he had the cord around his neck during the birth. From that very first external breath, his nervous system, and breathing, and immune system etc were compromised. Now, after our session, his diaphragmatic breathing was already noticeable improved, and will continue to do so over next few months I agree that now, focussed breath work would help him on his road to recovery 💪

2moLove this so much Steve! Yes... God forgive us for separating mind-body. The sooner we bring those 2 back into one, the better. Love what you're doing Steve. This is really important, needed, timely and the more of us doing it, the better. 🚀 🌻 🤗

2moSo fascinating Steve thanks and brilliantly articulated. I’ve seen just how profound breathwork can be when held with care. And also how important it is to move at the pace a system can safely hold. It’s why trauma-informed breathwork feels so vital as you say, not to limit, but to honour. Love seeing this conversation held with both science and soul. Thank you! Lou ✨🙏
