What is The Status Of Caribbean Medical Tourism?
Five years ago the International Medical Travel Journal, (IMTJ) published an article where several Caribbean nations announced plans to jump into the lucrative medical tourism market in an effort to create new economic opportunities by creating a niche market out of their well-branded tourism product. Some countries (Jamaica, St. Kitts and Trinidad & Tobago) hired consultants to do research and in the case of Guyana, St. Kitts and St. Vincent partnerships were developed with hospital development companies to create the necessary facility infrastructure. However, very little information has been heard since about the status of these projects with the exception of the fertility clinic in Barbados which has received significant mainstream publicity. 9yOh well, they hired the wrong consultants. Probably those who don't deliver the bad news, collect their fees and leave the islands.
Well yes, what has happened? Not much, I gather, and the projects which have goen forward, why don't we hear about their successes?
