When AI becomes a learning partner : my daily question-generation routine

As part of my ongoing professional development, I have established a daily routine that combines artificial intelligence with personalized learning : I use an AI assistant to generate tailored questions in the fields I want to deepen, such as neurocritical care, neuroanesthesia, data science, brain-computer interfaces, or even health law.

This idea emerged from a clear but demanding need : to learn in a structured and focused manner, without wasting time manually designing my own training content. I have therefore trained an AI model to generate questions in predefined formats (multiple choice, true/false, cloze deletions, short answers), following a precise layout and always citing sources in Vancouver style.

Custom AI for customized learning

Every morning (or later, depending on my agenda), I ask the AI to generate one question based on a curated and evolving list of study topics. This list includes both fundamental concepts (such as cerebral autoregulation or perfusion monitoring) and more cross-disciplinary items (such as biomarker relevance or transcranial doppler applications in the ICU).

The AI adapts to my expectations : it respects my preferred question formats and increases the level of difficulty over time, following academic conventions and source rigor.

Sample Questions from My Daily Practice

Here are a few representative examples from my question set :

1. Short Answer

What is the physiological effect of hypercapnia on cerebral blood flow?

{{c1::Vasodilation

Correction: Hypercapnia induces cerebral vasodilation and increases cerebral blood flow by lowering vascular resistance.

2. Multiple Choice

Which of the following are true regarding cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP)?

a) CPP = MAP + ICP

b) CPP should be maintained >60 mmHg

c) CPP is influenced by PaCO₂

d) CPP determines cerebral blood flow

e) CPP can be measured directly

{{c1::b) CPP should be maintained >60 mmHg c) CPP is influenced by PaCO₂ d) CPP determines cerebral blood flow

Correction: CPP = MAP - ICP. It determines cerebral blood flow and is influenced by factors like PaCO₂.

3. True/False

The PRx (Pressure Reactivity Index) is a marker of cerebral autoregulation.

{{c1::True Correction: PRx reflects the correlation between ICP and MAP, serving as an indirect index of cerebral autoregulation.

4. Cloze Deletion

The {{c1::transcranial Doppler}} allows non-invasive monitoring of blood flow velocity in major cerebral arteries.

Integration with Anki : a powerful memory tool

Each question is immediately imported into an Anki deck, which I review daily. Using Anki's spaced repetition algorithm, I consolidate knowledge at the optimal pace, prioritizing concepts I am less familiar with. Day after day, card after card, I’m building a custom cognitive database tailored to my exact learning objectives.

Why This Method Works

This approach combines several key educational principles :

  • Active recall : answering daily questions boosts long-term retention.

  • Personalization : all content aligns with my own curriculum.

  • Spaced repetition : Anki optimizes review intervals for durable memorization.

  • Academic rigor : each answer is evidence-based and properly referenced.

An evolving and transferable Method

This system can be adapted to any field of study. It's not simply about outsourcing content creation to AI, it's about leveraging it as a cognitive partner, capable of following precise instructions and evolving with my needs. Eventually, I plan to integrate these materials into teaching content or contribute to a shared knowledge base for healthcare professionals.
