When the day doesn’t go as planned… A 5-minute reset.

When the day doesn’t go as planned… A 5-minute reset.

We’ve all had those days.

The ones where you wake up with the best intentions, maybe even a clear to-do list and a fresh sense of focus. But then, somewhere between the first sip of coffee and the second unexpected email, the day takes a turn.

Plans unravel. Energy dips. Frustration rises.

And suddenly, you're not just off track, you’re stuck in a loop of trying to “catch up” while feeling more and more behind.

If you’re someone who thrives on structure and clarity (like I do), these moments can feel deeply unsettling. But here’s what I’ve learned both in my own journey and in the work I do with clients:

The goal is not to control every moment. The goal is to return to yourself when things fall apart.

That’s where real time mastery begins, not in perfection, but in presence.

Why Time Feels So Hard to Hold Onto

We live in a world that glorifies urgency. That rewards “pushing through.” That often equates stillness with laziness and flexibility with failure.

So when the day doesn’t go as planned, we often respond with internal pressure:

  • “I need to get back on track.”

  • “I’m wasting time.”

  • “Why can’t I just focus?”

But the truth is: life doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in cycles, waves, and spirals.

And the more we try to force ourselves into rigid boxes of time, the more disconnected we feel.

What we need is not tighter control.

We need a reset.

A 5-Minute S.O.U.L. Reset

When your day derails, you don’t need a new planner or a longer list. You need a grounded system to bring you back to centre.

Here’s how the S.O.U.L. Reset works in real time:

S – Simplify

“What can I let go of right now?”

When the day spirals, we often try to do more—when what we really need is to do less, better.

Take a moment to look at your list or calendar. Now ask yourself:

  • What’s non-essential?

  • What can be postponed, delegated, or dropped completely?

O – Organise

“Where can I create a pocket of calm?”

Organisation isn’t about colour-coded apps or perfect plans. It’s about creating clarity within chaos.

Set a 5-minute timer. Tidy up your physical space or mentally organise your next two steps. You’re not rebuilding your whole day, just reordering your energy.

This micro-organisation can shift you from scattered to steady in minutes.

U – Understand

“What is this moment trying to tell me?”

Often, when the day goes off course, there’s a deeper message underneath: Fatigue. Overcommitment. A misaligned, yes. Or simply a need for a pause.

Take a breath. Place your hand on your heart. Ask:

  • Am I trying to force something that needs flow?

  • What part of me needs compassion right now?

Understanding creates self-awareness, and that awareness is the doorway back to aligned action.

L – Leverage

“How can I do less and still move forward?”

This is where the magic happens.

Leverage means working with your energy, not against it.

Maybe it’s using a past idea, a template, or asking for help instead of starting from scratch.

What’s one thing you can simplify, systemise, or ask for support with?

Want to Go Deeper? Try These S.O.U.L.-Inspired Time Practices:

1. Simplify Your Week with a “Top 3” Focus: Each Sunday or Monday, choose the top 3 most aligned priorities for your week. That’s your North Star. Everything else is optional.

2. Organise Your Days in Energy Blocks: Instead of strict hourly slots, group your work into morning/midday/evening energy blocks. Align tasks to your natural rhythms.

3. Understand Your Yes and No: Track when you say yes out of obligation. Ask: “Does this align with my values, goals, and capacity?” This builds self-trust over time.

4. Leverage What Already Works: Look for areas where you’re reinventing the wheel. Can you repurpose content? Automate a task? Say yes to help?

Time is not just about minutes; it’s about momentum. Leverage is about getting more done with less stress.

Why the S.O.U.L. Reset Works

This isn’t a productivity hack. It’s a nervous system reset. A mindset shift. A reclaiming of your time and energy.

Here’s what happens when you use S.O.U.L.:

  • You get out of the spiral of stress and into a space of sovereignty.

  • You reorient your focus from reaction to intention.

  • You tap into grounded clarity instead of chaotic motion.

In just 5 minutes, you return to a place of inner leadership.

The next time your day doesn’t go as planned, don’t push harder. Pause. Breathe. S.O.U.L. your way back.

Simplify. Organise. Understand. Leverage.

This is how you reclaim your time and yourself.

What’s one way you’ve simplified or reorganised your day this week? I’d love to hear, drop a comment.

This is so important to listen to our bodies. When I'm knackered in the afternoon or get the 3pm slump, instead of working through it, I sit and meditate for 20 minutes ( TM - transcendental mediation) and I always feel refreshed afterwards.

Such a grounded reminder in a world that rewards nonstop motion. The S.O.U.L. Reset sounds like a powerful tool—because clarity often comes in the pause, not the push.
