When To Use What Kind Of Charts To Represent The Data
There is good saying “Data is not clever. Nor is it helpful and insightful. Data is very, seriously, stupid. And yet data can be honed, with a little thoughtful craftsmanship, into something amazing, beautiful and genuinely powerful.” And here are some of the tips tricks from the different people which can be used to represent the data in a meaningful manner.
In continuation with KPI, its very important in which format are you presenting the data.
Presenting the data in a correct format is an art and that’s how the reader/stakeholder will understand the data
I have watched two great videos on the same by Jeff Su and Sara (Venngage) and they have given great information along with some examples and tips and tricks.
TOP7 TIPCS FOR PRESENTING THE DATA BY JEFF SU
Never present single numbers
- Always have Industry benchmark for comparison
- Never compare oranges with apples
Highlight only one focal points, highlighting multiple focal points create confusion and data cannot be interpreted correctly!
Use colors, human brain is made to understand color codes quickly and hence adding colors to the data presentation makes them easier to understand!
Be consistent with color codes, style and operations like sorting, grouping etc.
Compare charts!
Use appropriate chart types while presenting the data, it makes the it more understandable
Use stickers as and when needed!
