Where Are Your Footprints?

Where Are Your Footprints?

I’m walking on the beach, the morning sun is bright, and the breeze is delightful. What is it about this that makes it such a special time? I love every step in the soft, warm sand, and it always inspires me to reflect and pray.

Soaking in the sun, I noticed footprints from those who hit the beach earlier than me.  Some footprints are close to the incoming waves and are erased very quickly.  Others are up further up on the beach and appear to have lasted several days.  Some are barefoot and you can see the outline of their feet with clarity; others wear flip-flops or sneakers. Some footprints are headed in a clear direction, while others wander much more and even appear to be going nowhere.

This beautiful sight resonates with me as I realize that we leave life footprints every day. Yes, we leave footprints for people to see who we are, what we stand for, and where we are going. But here’s the big question — what do your footprints represent?

Are they bold enough to inspire someone to follow, or are they so light that the first wave (or life crisis) washes them away? Do your footprints leave a mark, or do they raise eyebrows? Are we barefoot so people know who we are, or covered up with our sneakers? Can people tell which direction we are headed in life?

Maybe it’s time we all stopped and asked ourselves these questions the next time we’re in our favorite place to reflect.  Life has a funny way of showing us that every step we take matters. Better make it count, right?
